Sayali Satghare Celebrates Remarkable Journey: From WPL Triumph to Test Debut in Perth

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian women’s cricketer Sayali Satghare has expressed her joy over a transformative few months that have significantly shaped her career. After parting ways with the Gujarat Giants, Satghare found herself without a team during the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. Her circumstances changed positively when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) offered her a spot as a replacement for Ellyse Perry, who had to withdraw from the tournament for personal reasons. Satghare capitalized on this opportunity, contributing to RCB’s success as they secured their second WPL title.

Test Debut at WACA

Following her success in the WPL, Satghare made her Test debut in a pink-ball match against Australia at the WACA ground in Perth. Accompanying her were teammates Pratika Rawal, Kranti Gaud, and Kashvee Gautam. Reflecting on her recent achievements, Satghare emphasized that winning the WPL was a remarkable experience, yet her Test debut for the national team was a long-held dream. She remarked that “the last two to three months have been incredibly special,” highlighting the significance of debuting on a prestigious ground like WACA, which is often a dream venue for many bowlers. She noted, “Representing India in any format is a dream come true.”

Impressive Bowling Performance

In her debut Test, Satghare emerged as India’s leading bowler despite the team’s 10-wicket loss. She delivered an impressive performance, achieving bowling figures of 18.4 overs, with 2 maidens, conceding 50 runs and taking 4 wickets in the first innings. Her ability to generate movement with the pink ball was notably evident throughout the match. Among her scalps, she highlighted her dismissal of Georgia Voll as her most cherished wicket, achieved with a flawlessly executed inswinger.

Close Calls and Learning Experiences

Satghare also reflected on a near miss with Australia’s captain, Alyssa Healy, during her second spell. She delivered a ball that nipped back in, leading to an LBW appeal, but the team’s review indicated it had pitched outside the off stump. However, Satghare ultimately succeeded in dismissing Healy, who mishit an expansive shot to Jemimah Rodrigues. Satghare articulated, “While the bowled dismissal of Voll was special, the appeal against Healy was very close. If she had been out, it would have been even more memorable because it was her last game and turned out to be her final innings.”

Expanding Experience in International Cricket

Prior to her Test debut, Satghare made her One Day International (ODI) debut against Ireland in Rajkot, where she has taken three wickets across three matches with an average economy rate of 4.65. While she has already made significant contributions in both Tests and ODIs, she is yet to make her Twenty20 International (T20I) debut, marking a future milestone for her career.
