Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district have solved a chilling murder case involving the killing of a 35-year-old man whose partially concealed body was found inside a bag near a drain in Chandausi. The investigation led to the arrest of the victim’s wife, Ruby, and her alleged partner, Gaurav, seven days after the remains were discovered.

The deceased’s torso and severed hand were thrown into a drain 800 meters from the home. The head was thrown into the Ganges River at Ramghat. His clothes were also burned. To protect herself, the wife filed a missing complaint with the police six days later. Twenty-seven days later, the police recovered the decomposed body, wrapped in polythene, on the drain bank.

Identification Through Missing Person Records

The case came to light on December 15, when local police recovered an unclaimed bag containing part of a human body along Patraua Road. A tattoo bearing the name “Rahul” on the victim’s arm helped investigators narrow down the identity. Police cross-checked missing person reports and found that Ruby had filed a complaint on November 24, claiming her husband Rahul was missing.

When questioned, Ruby initially denied recognizing the body. However, inconsistencies in her statements and evidence recovered from her mobile phone raised suspicion, eventually leading to her confession.

Crime Rooted in Domestic Conflict

During interrogation, police learned that the murder allegedly took place on the night of November 18–19. Investigators said Rahul had reportedly confronted Ruby after discovering her relationship with Gaurav. A heated argument followed, during which Ruby and her partner allegedly killed Rahul inside the house.

Police stated that the accused later attempted to destroy evidence and conceal the crime by disposing of the body in different locations to prevent identification.

Efforts to Hide the Crime

The following morning, the accused allegedly purchased items from the market to help dispose of the body and mislead authorities. Police said the intention was to delay identification and investigation. To further divert suspicion, Ruby lodged a missing complaint several days later, portraying herself as a concerned spouse.

Key Evidence Recovered

Based on the accused’s statements, police recovered multiple items believed to be linked to the crime, including tools, electronic devices, and vehicles allegedly used during the disposal process. Authorities have also seized two mobile phones and are examining call records and digital evidence.

Officials confirmed that they are investigating whether more people were involved in assisting or concealing the crime.

Daughter’s Statement Shocks Investigators

One of the most disturbing aspects of the case emerged from the statement of Rahul’s young daughter. The child reportedly told police that her mother’s associates frequently visited their home and sent the children away with distractions. She also claimed to have overheard conversations suggesting plans to remove her father from their lives. The child has demanded the strictest punishment for those responsible for her father’s death.

Police Assure Strict Action

Senior police officials said the case is being pursued with seriousness and that charges have been framed under relevant sections of the law. The arrests have sent shockwaves through the area, with residents calling for swift justice in a case that has deeply disturbed the community.
