Russian Strike Damages Kyiv Bridge As Attacks Kill Six Across Ukraine

The CSR Journal Magazine

Russian military strikes in Ukraine have led to the deaths of at least six individuals, alongside significant damage to a critical bridge in Kyiv, creating transportation disruptions for a third consecutive day. The latest assault aligns with an escalation in aerial warfare, as both Kyiv and Moscow have intensified long-range strikes against each other.

According to Kyiv’s Mayor Vitalii Klitschko, traffic on the Northern Bridge was halted following damage to its road surface and trolleybus infrastructure. Although no casualties resulted from this specific attack, it came after two preceding days of Russian artillery actions that forced partial or complete closures of three of Kyiv’s six road bridges crossing the Dnipro River.

The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the operation, stating that the targeted bridge is strategically important for troop movements and military logistics for Ukraine’s armed forces. Videos circulating on social media appeared to capture the moment of the strike, reportedly recorded by a driver’s dashcam as vehicles traversed the bridge.

Aerial Assaults Widen Concerns Beyond Ukraine

The ongoing aerial campaign has heightened concerns in neighbouring Moldova. President Maia Sandu expressed alarm over the escalating warfare, stating that it is “dangerously reaching” her country. She condemned Russia’s actions in Ukraine, which reportedly led to five Russian aerial munitions, including missiles and drones, violating Moldovan airspace and detonating on its territory.

In a message on social media, Sandu urged for immediate action against Moscow, claiming it is jeopardising lives across Europe. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that overnight Russian forces launched Banderol cruise missiles targeting the Odesa region, which shares a land border with Moldova. These missiles are described as low-cost, aerodynamic munitions deployed to overwhelm Ukrainian air defence systems.

In further developments, Russian assaults in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, involved drones and guided bombs, resulting in five fatalities and over 40 injuries, according to regional official Oleh Syniehubov. Additionally, drone strikes in Izyum harmed three more individuals, with one drone impacting an industrial site while another damaged residential buildings.

Wider Effects of the Conflict on Civilians

Reports have also emerged detailing damage and casualties in regions held by Russian forces and within Russian territory. In the occupied Luhansk region, Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly killed two and injured two civilians when they struck a vehicle and a passenger car on a highway, as per regional head Leonid Pasechkin.

In Russia, Ukrainian drone operations struck Kaluga overnight, injuring several people and damaging apartment edifices. Regional Governor Vladislav Shapsha noted that 13 drones were shot down over the area during that night. Additionally, Ukrainian drone attacks in the Belgorod region resulted in one civilian fatality and injuries to two others in villages close to the Ukrainian border.

The recent spate of attacks leaves Kyiv facing renewed disruptions, compounded by consistent strikes on critical infrastructure. The conflict continues to inflict casualties and damage on both sides, affecting civilian populations and military operations extensively across Ukraine and neighbouring territories.
