Rhea Chakraborty Discusses Consequences of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Rhea Chakraborty has stated that the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has severely affected her family’s financial stability. She reported a significant decline in film opportunities following the tragic incident, alongside her brother Shovik’s lost chance to secure a position at the Indian Institute of Management after achieving a 97 per cent in the CAT exam. Rhea articulated that the series of events led to her father relinquishing a vital role in a prominent hospital due to societal backlash.

During a conversation with Farah Khan on her YouTube vlog, Rhea reflected on the intense media scrutiny and investigations that ensued after Rajput’s death in June 2020. She described how the environment contributed to a halt in their personal and professional lives, leaving them feeling ostracised. Rhea expressed a sense of social cancellation, stating that both she and Shovik faced significant barriers to employment and social acceptance.

Rebuilding Lives with New Initiatives

After facing a prolonged period of inactivity and limited opportunities, Rhea and Shovik resolved to take control of their circumstances by establishing their own venture. This led to the creation of a clothing brand called Chapter 2, which they reportedly launched as a response to the challenges they encountered in 2020. Rhea noted that this venture has proven successful enough for her to acquire a new residence.

Rhea recounted that the idea for Chapter 2 stemmed from Shovik’s achievements juxtaposed against their struggles. She elaborated that despite his academic prowess and enrolment in IIM, the subsequent legal issues prevented him from pursuing his studies. Consequently, they decided to enter the apparel market, aiming to foster independence and express their experiences through fashion. Rhea shared how a T-shirt she wore during her arrest became symbolic of their mission; it conveyed messages of empowerment and resistance.

Rhea highlighted the motivation behind their clothing line as a means to give a voice to those who feel muted by societal pressures. By designing apparel with meaningful messages, they intend to encourage discourse on important issues, reflecting their own experiences of being sidelined.

Background on the Controversy

Following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, multiple FIRs were filed against Rhea Chakraborty and her family on various charges, including abetment to suicide and money laundering. These complaints originated from Rajput’s family and prompted a series of investigations by law enforcement agencies. Rhea was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau and spent nearly a month in jail, where the agency accused her and Shovik of facilitating drug delivery to Rajput.

On March 23, 2025, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a closure report regarding the case, exonerating Rhea and her family from all allegations. According to the CBI, there was insufficient evidence to support claims of abetment to suicide, illegal confinement, or theft. Rajput’s untimely passing at his Mumbai residence in June 2020 was deemed a deeply unsettling event, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.

Currently, Rhea Chakraborty is participating in Season 2 of the reality show The Traitors, with new episodes being released weekly on Amazon Prime Video. Her ongoing projects signify her attempt to navigate back into the public sphere amid her family’s tumultuous experiences in recent years.
