The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident from Firozpur, Punjab, Surjit Singh allegedly tied his daughter Preet Kaur’s hands and pushed her into the Firozepur Feeder canal over suspicions of an extramarital relationship.

The accused recorded the act on his mobile phone, and the video has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread outrage. When the incident happened, the girl’s mother cried and asked, “Meri beti kahan chali gayi (Where has my daughter gone?).”

Family Members Alert Police; Accused Confesses

According to police reports, the accused had repeatedly expressed doubts about his daughter’s conduct and had been physically abusive. On Tuesday night around 8:40 pm, Surjit Singh took his daughter on his bike to the canal, tied her hands with a scarf, and threw her into the water.

The girl’s mother was reportedly present but did not intervene. Family members alerted the police after the video surfaced, leading to Surjit Singh’s arrest under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Investigation Underway, Search Continues

Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed the arrest and said further investigations are ongoing. The police are conducting a search operation to locate Preet in the canal and are examining the video footage as part of their probe. Surjit admitted to the crime, stating that he took the extreme step because his daughter “did not obey him and brought disgrace to the family.”

Statement of Police

Firozpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed the arrest. “A case has been registered against accused father Surjit Singh. The video of the incident has also surfaced, and further investigation is underway,” SSP Sidhu said.

During questioning, Surjit Singh reportedly admitted to committing the act. “Maine apni beti ko samjhaya tha lekin woh nahi maani, jiske baad mujhe yeh kadam uthana pada (I had explained to my daughter, but she did not listen, after which I took this step),” he told police.

The disturbing incident has sparked a local sensation and raised serious concerns about violence against women in the region.
