In a conversation with journalist Anjula Acharia, Chopra expressed gratitude towards prominent figures such as Aishwarya Rai, the late Irrfan Khan, and Mindy Kaling for their pioneering roles in the entertainment industry. She referred to them as trailblazers whose accomplishments enabled her to carve out her own niche in the Western film industry.

Emotional Connection to Her Heritage

Following the conference, Chopra shared her feelings on social media, expressing overwhelming emotions upon seeing numerous individuals from the Indian community adorned in traditional attire. She reflected on her personal experience of moving to the United States at the age of 12, recalling that such cultural representation was scarce during her early years.

Aishwarya Rai and Irrfan Khan’s Contributions

Aishwarya Rai has been a frontrunner among Indian actors breaking into Western cinema. Her roles in films such as Bride & Prejudice, The Mistress of Spices, and The Pink Panther 2 played a crucial role in showcasing Indian talent on a global scale. Irrfan Khan, known for his powerful performances in movies including The Namesake, Life of Pi, and Slumdog Millionaire, also opened doors for Indian actors in Hollywood with his remarkable body of work.

Mindy Kaling’s Influence

Chopra also cited Mindy Kaling’s achievements in the American entertainment landscape as a source of inspiration. As a creator and performer, Kaling has successfully carved a space for herself in mainstream television and film, paving the way for greater opportunities for South Asian artists in North America.
