The CSR Journal Magazine

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, exchanging Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz greetings while addressing escalating tensions in the Middle East. Modi expressed his hopes that these festive celebrations would foster peace, stability, and prosperity in the West Asia region. During the conversation, he condemned the attacks on critical infrastructure that threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining open and secure shipping lanes.

Support for Indian Nationals in Iran Acknowledged

In his communication, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for Iran’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Indian nationals residing in the country. He stated his appreciation for Tehran’s support and cooperation in safeguarding the welfare of Indian citizens amid the complex geopolitical landscape.

Escalation of Hostilities in the Region

On the same day, Israeli forces, alongside U.S. military support, launched additional strikes on Iran’s Natanz uranium-enrichment facility, according to Iranian media sources linked to the state. Reports from the Tasnim news agency indicated that this latest strike targeted the critical site, although there were no immediate indications of radioactive leakage or danger to nearby residents. Previous strikes on the Natanz facility have underscored its strategic significance in the ongoing conflict, marking it as a pivotal location.

Previous Communication Cited Concerns Over Civilian Impact

This conversation marks the second time that Modi has spoken with Pezeshkian since the escalation of tensions began on February 28. In an earlier call on March 12, the Prime Minister conveyed “deep concern” regarding the rising hostilities, the increasing toll on civilian lives, and the damage inflicted upon essential civilian infrastructure. Modi’s concern reflects the broader anxieties shared by many nations regarding the ongoing conflict’s impact on the local population and infrastructure.
