On September 25, 2026, a nationwide initiative titled ‘Namami Bharatam’ will take place, featuring participation from over one crore students, teachers, parents, and citizens. The event aims to honour the 150-year legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’ by facilitating a collective singing of the song at 11 am across more than 25,000 locations throughout India. This undertaking seeks to encapsulate the spirit of unity with the slogan “One Voice – One Resolve – One India.”

The organisers, Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan based in New Delhi, suggest that ‘Namami Bharatam’ goes beyond a simple programme of group singing. The initiative is designed to connect the youth with the historical importance of ‘Vande Mataram’, the song’s role in the Indian freedom movement, and its significance within contemporary society. Educational institutions are planning various activities such as interactive sessions, exhibitions, and cultural programmes to underline these themes.

Historically, ‘Vande Mataram’ played a crucial role in energising nationalist feelings during the struggle for India’s independence. Following the country’s liberation, it was declared the National Song of India, while ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was designated as the National Anthem. The day aims to serve as a comprehensive tribute to the song’s rich history and its contributions to the nation.

Record Certification and Participation in Delhi

In addition to its cultural significance, the ‘Namami Bharatam’ initiative is in the process of being certified for records by both the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records. These recognitions will acknowledge the effort of having the largest number of individuals—including students and general public members—sing ‘Vande Mataram’ simultaneously at various locations.

Dr Satish Maheshwari, General Secretary of Vidya Bharati Delhi Prant, indicated that over one lakh individuals will participate across roughly 300 venues in Delhi alone. The highlight of the event in the capital will occur at PGDAV College Campus, located at Ring Road, Nehru Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, starting at 11 am. Notable attendees will include Deshraj Sharma, All India General Secretary of Vidya Bharati, as the chief guest.

Other significant locations in Delhi for the event include Mata Leelawanti Saraswati Bal Mandir in Hari Nagar, where Sukhraj Sethia, Chairman of North Zone, will be a chief guest; Saraswati Bal Mandir in Rajouri Garden, featuring Dr Satish Maheshwari; and Shri Sanatan Dharam Saraswati Bal Mandir in Punjabi Bagh, with Dr Anil Agrawal, Sanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Delhi Prant. These gatherings highlight the commitment to fostering national unity and reinforcing cultural connections.
