Three Domino’s Outlets Lose Licences In Mumbai

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of three Domino’s Pizza outlets in Mumbai due to multiple food safety violations. This action comes during the festive season, when food safety standards are particularly critical. The affected outlets are located in Parel, Marol, and Borivali, and are part of a larger crackdown on food establishments in the region.

In total, the FDA suspended the licences of 19 food establishments, which included 17 in Mumbai and two in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Other establishments affected by the suspension include Amina Hotel and Instacart Services Pvt. Ltd. The FDA cited significant health hazards at these locations, prompting immediate action.

Details of Violations at Domino’s Outlets

The inspections revealed alarming conditions at the Domino’s outlets, including cockroach infestations and food packets that had been gnawed by rats. The establishments were reportedly using spoiled food and burnt oil, and there were instances of improper storage, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian items kept together. Such practices pose serious health risks to consumers.

The FDA’s suspension order for Instacart Services Private Limited, located in Lower Parel, followed a detailed inspection conducted by a Food Safety Officer on October 13, 2026. The inspection report highlighted the presence of cockroaches on food storage racks and rat droppings near stored food items. A dead rat was also found under an empty storage rack, raising further concerns about hygiene.

Additional issues documented during the inspection included peeling wall plaster, broken floor tiles, and sticky, oily floors. A torn 5-kg bag of food was discovered, spilling its contents directly onto the floor. Leaking milk packets and spilled buttermilk or curd contributed to a foul odour throughout the premises. The facility’s frozen room was noted to be in a particularly unsanitary condition, with blackened surfaces and excessive ice accumulation on the racks.

Wider Crackdown on Food Safety Violations

The FDA’s actions are part of a broader initiative to ensure food safety across Mumbai and other regions of Maharashtra. During recent operations, the FDA seized 24,406 kg of suspected sub-standard, unsafe, and mislabelled food stock across various divisions, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Greater Mumbai. The total value of the seized items amounted to Rs 50.19 lakh.

In addition to the Domino’s outlets, two edible oil repacking units in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Orgisattva Foods and Jyotirling Foods, had their licences suspended due to the discovery of adulterated oil stock valued at over Rs 39 lakh. The FDA’s efforts also extended to food items in the Konkan and Greater Mumbai divisions, resulting in further seizures worth Rs 1.17 lakh and leading to four arrests.

The FDA has emphasised the importance of adhering to food safety regulations to protect public health. The recent suspensions and seizures highlight ongoing concerns regarding food safety standards in the region, particularly during peak consumption periods like the festive season.
