The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is marking its 66th Foundation Day by emphasising the future of school education in India. On this occasion, Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that new textbooks for Classes 10 to 12 are being developed in “mission mode.” This initiative aims to create educational resources that are innovative, inclusive, and aligned with modern learning frameworks.

Minister Joshi noted that textbooks for Classes 1 to 9 have already been released, adhering to the updated National Curriculum Framework (NCF). The focus is now on ensuring that educational materials for older students also meet contemporary educational standards. He stated that NCERT is vital in contributing to a “Viksit Bharat” by fostering skilled and globally responsible individuals through quality education.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted ongoing efforts related to the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage 2022 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, indicating a comprehensive approach towards curricular development.

Emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Multilingual Education

As part of the celebrations, Joshi discussed the significant impact of artificial intelligence on education, asserting that NCERT must adapt to these rapid changes. He observed that AI is becoming increasingly prevalent in daily life, especially among younger students who are using these technologies more frequently.

According to the minister, educational resources must evolve to empower students to engage with AI both confidently and responsibly. He also underscored the necessity for parents to be more conscious of their children’s tech usage so they can provide effective guidance.

Additionally, Joshi reinforced the importance of strengthening NCERT’s research capabilities while ensuring that student mental well-being is prioritised. He pointed out that textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 are being translated into all 22 languages recognised in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, as well as 121 primers in various Indian languages, including 93 tribal languages.

New Learning Facilities and Resources Unveiled

During the anniversary event, Minister Joshi inaugurated several new facilities, including a Robotics Learning Centre, a Translation Lab, and an upgraded television studio. The introduction of a new Gate No. 2 complex and a themed park was also part of the celebrations.

In conjunction with the opening of these facilities, a new coffee-table book titled “Flora and Fauna at NCERT” was released, and an exhibition was showcased featuring various initiatives such as Jaadui Pitara, PM eVIDYA, DIKSHA, and eJaadui Pitara. These initiatives aim to enhance learning experiences and promote innovative educational practices.

Minister Joshi concluded by reaffirming that India’s youth is a valuable asset not only for the nation but also for the global community, thus making the provision of quality, forward-thinking education a central focus of the broader Viksit Bharat mission.
