Mumbai Central Railway to Face Mega Block on Feb 1: Commuters Warned of Major Disruption

The CSR Journal Magazine

Central Railway’s Mumbai Division will carry out a major maintenance operation, dubbed a “Mega Block,” on its suburban railway sections on February 1, 2026. The initiative is aimed at upgrading infrastructure and ensuring the safety of rail operations, officials said.

The maintenance work will impact both the Main Line and Harbour Line services in the Mumbai suburban network, prompting diversions, cancellations, and adjustments for commuters throughout the day.

Main Line Services to Face Diversions

On the Main Line, the UP and DOWN Fast Lines between Thane and Kalyan will be blocked from 10:40 AM to 3:40 PM. During this period, several suburban trains will be diverted to the Slow Lines:

Down Fast/Semi-Fast trains departing CSMT between 9:34 AM and 3:03 PM will run on the Down Slow line, making additional stops at Kalva, Mumbra, and Diva stations. These services are expected to reach their destinations 10 minutes later than scheduled.

Up Fast/Semi-Fast trains departing Kalyan between 10:28 AM and 3:40 PM will run on the Up Slow line and halt at Diva, Mumbra, and Kalva. These trains will then rejoin the Up Fast line at Mulund, arriving 10 minutes behind schedule.

Meanwhile, Mail/Express trains will also be rerouted. Down trains departing CSMT/Dadar will run on the 5th line between Thane and Kalyan, while Up trains arriving at CSMT/Dadar will use the 6th line between Kalyan and Thane or Vikhroli.

Harbour Line Services Severely Impacted

The Harbour Line between Kurla and Vashi will also undergo a Mega Block from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM. As a result:

Down Harbour Line trains from CSMT to Vashi/Belapur/Panvel running between 10:34 AM and 3:36 PM will be cancelled.

Up Harbour Line trains from Panvel/Belapur/Vashi towards CSMT between 10:17 AM and 3:47 PM will also remain cancelled.

To ease commuter disruption, special suburban trains will operate on the CSMT-Kurla and Panvel-Vashi sections during the block. Passengers traveling between Thane and Vashi/Nerul will still be able to use Harbour Line services between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Public Advisory

The railway authorities have requested passengers to plan their journeys in advance and bear with the temporary inconveniences caused by the maintenance activities. Officials emphasized that these Mega Blocks are essential for the upkeep of infrastructure and ensuring safety for all commuters.

The press release was issued by Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai, on January 30, 2026 under PR No. 2026/01/31.
