Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took part in the state-level Balram Jayanti Festival and Cooperative Farmers’ Conclave on September 2 in Gwalior. During this event, he announced various farmer-centric schemes under the Farmer Welfare Year initiative. The festival serves as a platform to engage with farmers and improve agricultural practices in the region.

At the event, CM Yadav introduced the Kisan Credit Card Portal and announced the simplification of the Zero-Per Cent Interest Scheme, which aims to provide easier access to loans for farmers. Additionally, he inaugurated offices for two hundred newly registered Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) throughout the state, allowing farmers to have better access to resources and support.

As part of the celebrations, share-capital certificates were awarded to new PACS members. The Chief Minister also presented certificates of appreciation to three district cooperative banks and five PACS institutions for their exemplary contributions to the agricultural sector.

Government’s Commitment to Farmer Welfare

In his address to the media, CM Yadav stated that the government has declared this year as the Farmer Welfare Year, organising activities across various districts under the auspices of Lord Balram. These activities encompass agricultural machinery exhibitions, interactions with progressive farmers, and guidance from agricultural scientists. The government aims to facilitate comprehensive growth for farmers during this special year.

The Chief Minister elaborated on the multi-departmental approach to integrating efforts aimed at improving the agricultural sector. He reported that the horticulture sector has seen significant growth, doubling its output in approximately two-and-a-half years. In terms of wheat procurement, Madhya Pradesh has achieved the highest levels in the country, illustrating the state’s dedication to enhancing agricultural productivity.

CM Yadav emphasised the ongoing advancements in various sectors such as pulses, oilseeds, and horticulture, along with fruit and flower cultivation. He also highlighted steps being taken to enhance milk production and development in the fisheries sector through the construction of water reservoirs, representing a holistic growth strategy that focuses on farmer prosperity.

New Measures for Agricultural Support

The Chief Minister announced plans for providing ten hours of electricity daily during the upcoming Rabi season following the monsoon rains. He mentioned that the Madhya Pradesh government is one of the few providing electricity connections to farmers at Rs 5 per unit, claiming it to be the most economical pricing in the country across all sectors.

Expressing optimism, CM Yadav noted that as the Farmer Welfare Year progresses, farmers can expect to benefit from additional initiatives. Several schemes, including the Kavach scheme, were launched during the event. This scheme aims to protect farmers from being penalised for defaults made by financial institutions; instead, responsible parties will face consequences for their actions.

The Chief Minister further underscored the government’s focus on simplifying the process for securing interest-free agricultural loans and enabling farmers to access digital services via dedicated portals and IDs. Support for auxiliary agricultural activities such as animal husbandry, poultry, and goat rearing is also being enhanced through increased subsidies, ensuring a comprehensive support system for farmers in Madhya Pradesh.
