The passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in Parliament was met with considerable appreciation from Minister Nara Lokesh. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, he emphasised the positive implications of the bill, particularly for the farmers who had been in a state of distress and confusion over the past twenty months.

He underscored that the government has taken proactive steps to alleviate these concerns. “Under the leadership of our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, we made a commitment to declare Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh,” stated Lokesh.

Appreciation for Central Government’s Role

In his remarks, Nara Lokesh highlighted the critical contributions of the Central Government in facilitating the bill’s progress. He expressed particular gratitude to Home Minister Amit Shah for ensuring that the bill was brought to Parliament and successfully vetted.

“Thanks to the Honourable Home Minister, we were able to complete the necessary procedures in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, leading to this significant legislative success,” he noted. He also thanked the citizens of India and numerous political factions for their support during the legislative process.

However, he did not miss the opportunity to criticise a particular opposition party. “It is unfortunate that they have chosen to withdraw from discussions, despite the clear mandate from our citizens,” Lokesh remarked.

Implications for Andhra Pradesh’s Development

Nara Lokesh asserted that the bill’s passage would considerably enhance the sense of security for the residents of Andhra Pradesh and expedite development in Amaravati. He referenced the ongoing momentum in infrastructure projects, stating that essential developments including roads, the Secretariat, the Assembly, and the High Court have resumed.

“We are dedicated to completing these projects within the promised timelines while bolstering private investment and creating job opportunities,” Lokesh conveyed. He labelled the legislative effort as a dual victory for both the government and the farmers of Amaravati, many of whom fought hard to uphold Amaravati’s status as the sole capital.

The Minister expressed confidence in the state’s financial trajectory, noting the initial challenges faced post-bifurcation, such as a Rs 16,000 crore deficit. He asserted that with appropriate support, Andhra Pradesh aims to strengthen its economy and contribute more significantly to the nation’s progress within one government term.

Recognition of Farmers’ Sacrifices

During his address, Lokesh particularly acknowledged the sacrifices made by the farmers of Amaravati, labelling the bill’s passage as a long-awaited victory for them. He remarked that their struggles and sacrifices were not in vain, and the move to solidify Amaravati as the capital is a significant step in honouring their commitment.

The Minister expressed an unwavering belief in the potential future of Andhra Pradesh, optimistically stating that with the right measures in place, the state would emerge more resilient than before. The legislative passage is viewed as a pivotal moment, setting the stage for further developments aimed at economic revitalisation and community welfare.

Earlier in the day, Lokesh and other members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to express their appreciation for the successful passage of the bill, framing it as a foundational milestone for the future development of Andhra Pradesh.
