A tragic incident occurred in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, where a 10-year-old girl named Rutuja lost her life after her father allegedly hung her upside down at their home overnight. Reports indicate that the child was subjected to this treatment under the father’s suspicion that she had stolen money from a relative. The accused, identified as Dadu alias Nana Yamgar, a local farmer, has been taken into custody by law enforcement officials.

Details of the Abuse

Investigations reveal that the father also inflicted similar treatment on Rutuja’s 11-year-old sister, Anuja. She is currently receiving medical care in a hospital following the incident. Authorities became aware of the situation on Thursday, when medical personnel at a facility in Atpadi taluka reported the girl’s death to the police.

Parental Intervention and Threats

According to police statements, other family members attempted to intervene and rescue the girls during the ordeal. However, it is alleged that Yamgar threatened them with a sickle, which prevented any assistance. Despite Rutuja’s distress and repeated requests for water, he reportedly ignored her pleas.

Method of Abuse and Discovery

The police detailed that Dadu Yamgar restrained both daughters by tying their hands and legs to an iron angle installed below the ceiling of their home. His actions were driven by his anger over the suspected theft from a relative’s residence in Banpuri, located within Atpadi. The sisters were discovered unconscious the following morning by family members, who subsequently brought them down and rushed them to a nearby government hospital.

Medical Response and Death Confirmation

Although the sisters were taken to the hospital, Rutuja’s condition deteriorated rapidly. She passed away en route to a hospital in Pandharpur, situated in Solapur district. Meanwhile, Anuja remains hospitalized and is receiving treatment for her injuries.

Legal Actions Taken

The situation was reported to the authorities by hospital officials following Rutuja’s death. Subsequently, her father was arrested, and police are investigating the matter further. There are indications that Yamgar may be experiencing mental instability. A case has been filed against him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is ongoing to gather more details regarding this shocking incident.
