Madhya Pradesh Links Women’s and Child Helplines to Emergency Number 112

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Madhya Pradesh government has announced the integration of the women’s helpline number 181 and the child helpline 1098 with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) number 112. This initiative is part of the larger ‘One Nation One Helpline’ program aimed at providing seamless support to citizens in distress. A senior government official confirmed this development on Sunday.

Accessing Immediate Assistance

Under this new system, any individual needing immediate help on behalf of a woman or a child under the age of 18 can contact the toll-free numbers 181, 1098, or 112. The integration ensures that support is available round the clock, seven days a week. The official emphasized that the helpline 181 is dedicated to assisting women affected by violence, connecting them to critical services such as police, hospitals, ambulances, and legal aid through a single platform.

Support Services for Women and Children

Helpline 181 coordinates with all ‘one stop centres’ throughout the state to facilitate access to various essential services. Additionally, it provides emotional and psychological support through trained counselors. From April 1, 2025, to January 29, 2026, this helpline has reportedly aided 128,000 women in various capacities.

Child Helpline Functionality

The child helpline 1098 has also been successfully linked to ERSS-112. Responders categorize calls based on their nature, and in cases that qualify as emergencies, these calls are swiftly redirected to ERSS-112 and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU). According to officials, assistance has been provided to 26,974 children within the same timeframe, encompassing services such as protection, counseling, and rehabilitation.

Government Commitment to Safety and Empowerment

The Madhya Pradesh administration is persistently implementing measures to enhance the safety and empowerment of women and children. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has been at the forefront of this initiative, employing technology-based support systems to ensure respect and protection for these vulnerable groups.
