A 19-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight in Mumbai on Tuesday in a chilling incident that sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood. Police arrested a young couple within 12 hours of the crime, linking the killing to a suspected love triangle and escalating personal disputes.

The victim, identified as Shifa, was shot at close range on a public street, startling residents who heard the gunfire. She collapsed on the spot and was rushed to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Bloodstains on the road and the brazenness of the daytime attack triggered panic and concern among locals.

Swift Police Action Leads To Arrests

Officers from Shivaji Nagar police station launched an immediate investigation, combing through CCTV footage and gathering intelligence from informers. Their efforts quickly led to the detention of two suspects – a 25-year-old woman believed to be the prime accused and her 23-year-old male partner.

According to police sources, the duo was traced through surveillance footage and witness accounts, enabling authorities to make arrests within hours of the shooting.

Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Shaikh confirmed that the killing was the result of a personal conflict rooted in a romantic relationship. Investigators believe the woman accused of masterminding the attack conspired with her partner to carry out the shooting.

Love Triangle Suspected As Motive

Preliminary findings suggest that Shifa was involved in a relationship with the male accused, who was also linked to another woman – now believed to be the main conspirator. Tensions between the three had reportedly been escalating for some time before culminating in violence.

Police said earlier arguments and hostility may have evolved into a planned attack, though the full sequence of events is still being pieced together. Officials emphasised that the investigation remains at an early stage and more details will emerge during interrogation.

Probe Expands To Weapon Source

A case has been registered under the relevant murder provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities are also investigating how the accused obtained the firearm and whether additional individuals assisted in planning or executing the crime.

The incident has once again raised concerns about gun access, personal disputes turning violent, and safety in densely populated urban areas.

Police said further arrests or charges cannot be ruled out as they continue to examine evidence and statements.
