Jharkhand Student Leader Piyush Kumar Vows To Persist In Protests Until All Demands Are Met

The CSR Journal Magazine

Student leader Piyush Kumar has stated that the ongoing protests regarding the JSSC-CGL and TDPL exams in Jharkhand will not cease until the government addresses all their demands. These requests include the withdrawal of notifications, clarification on the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and Food Safety Officer (FSO) exams, the implementation of the 2018 age cut-off, and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into alleged irregularities in the examinations.

In an interview with ANI, Piyush Kumar expressed concerns about the government’s handling of these issues, stating, “We first want to see whether the JSSC notification has actually been withdrawn. TDPL had prepared the final merit list. We also want to understand the government’s stance regarding the CDPO and FSO exams; that remains unclear.” He further claimed that clarity on the age cut-off is essential, expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s communication regarding the 2018 cut-off.

Piyush also raised questions about the government’s position on a potential CBI inquiry, stating, “What is the government’s stance on a CBI inquiry? We have some doubts regarding the government’s position on that.” He reaffirmed the commitment of the protesters, saying, “We will not budge until the very last demand is met.” His remarks follow an attempt by officials to persuade the protesters to end their hunger strike, which they declined.

Chief Minister’s Announcement of Exam Cancellation

The developments come after a recent announcement by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who declared the cancellation of all activities associated with TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL), including the examinations conducted under its supervision, as well as results and selections made. The Chief Minister revealed this decision during a press conference held at the Jaipal Singh Stadium on August 17.

During the press briefing, CM Soren noted that a special Cabinet meeting had been convened to discuss the situation and reached a consensus to cancel all examinations linked with TDPL. He stated, “After considering all aspects and finding solutions to the issues, we have decided to cancel all examinations conducted by TDPL, the results published by TDPL, and the selection or participation of any candidates through TDPL.” Furthermore, he confirmed the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examinations and promised a comprehensive inquiry into any irregularities that have occurred since 2014.

The Chief Minister announced that the inquiry would focus on uncovering the full extent of the alleged irregularities and would be conducted under the supervision of a retired judge. He added that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were already involved in ongoing investigations, revealing several disturbing findings.

Commitment to Examination Reforms and Transparency

CM Soren emphasised the government’s commitment to reforming examination processes to enhance transparency and prevent future irregularities. He noted that some individuals who were appointed through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) had already been arrested in connection with the investigations into these examinations.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the ongoing tensions between the government and the student community, remarking, “Sometimes it seems that we are right, and at other times, it appears that the students are right. It becomes difficult to distinguish between the two sides.” He assured the public that the government is taking steps to strengthen existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to mitigate any potential misconduct in future examinations.

The protests in Ranchi highlight the broader concerns raised by students regarding alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the JPSC and JSSC. The government’s recent actions suggest a response aimed at pacifying the discontent among aspirants while simultaneously addressing the legitimacy of the examinations carried out in recent years.
