Students at IIT Bombay organised a candlelight march on the evening of September 25, 2026 to remember Sahil Wakode, who was found deceased in his hostel room a week earlier, on September 18. This FIR alleges caste discrimination and abetment of suicide against Doolla.

They insisted that the reconstituted committee should exclude any current employees or students from IIT Bombay to ensure impartiality. Additionally, the protesters suggested that at least two from the following four public figures should be included: former Planning Commission member Bhalchandra Mungekar, journalist P. Sainath, activist Ram Puniyani, and academic Sukhadeo Thorat.

Moreover, the students called for an immediate suspension of Professor Doolla from all responsibilities until the criminal investigation is concluded. They also demanded the resignation of the Director of IIT Bombay, Shireesh Kedare, citing concerns over the school’s handling of the situation. Their apprehensions were magnified by the sensitive nature of Wakode’s death and its implications for academic life at the institution.

Reports indicate that Wakode was discovered hanging just hours after allegedly being caught using his mobile phone to access ChatGPT during a mid-semester examination.
