Helicopter Service launched ahead of Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival

The CSR Journal Magazine

Nagaland Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along on Tuesday flagged off a dedicated helicopter service for the Hornbill Festival 2025 from Kohima’s Lerie Helipad. The service aims to ease travel and boost tourist mobility during the state’s premier cultural festival.

Announcing the launch on X, Temjen Imna Along wrote, “With the dedicated chopper service now flagged off from Kohima’s Lerie Helipad, you can reach key destinations even faster, making your Hornbill journey smoother, easier, and truly memorable.”

The helicopter service is operated by Thumby Aviation Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with the Tourism Department.

The flag-off event was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister and IDAN Chairman Abu Metha, TaFMA Chairman Theja Meru, Transport Department OSD Myingthungo Ababe Ezung, Captain Amitabh, and several Tourism Department officials.

Aerial views of iconic spots

The service promises tourists breathtaking aerial views of Kohima city, the picturesque Dzükou Valley, and the Hornbill Festival venue. Organisers say the rides will offer a “unique and unforgettable” flying experience.

The helicopters will operate across three key locations—Dimapur Airport, Kohima Heliport and Kigwema Heliport.

Subsidized rates have been announced for both domestic and international visitors. In addition, tourists may charter the helicopter for travel to various destinations across Nagaland.

Easy booking options

Bookings can be made through Tourism Department’s social media handles, Kisama information counter, official tourism website and designated contact numbers.

The iconic Hornbill Festival, known as the “Festival of Festivals,” is held every year from December 1 to 10. This year marks its 26th edition, with the state expecting a significant rise in tourist footfall supported by improved air connectivity.
