Haryana Rajya Sabha Vote Count Paused Amid BJP-Congress Row

The CSR Journal Magazine

The counting process for the Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana has been temporarily halted due to objections raised by both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress regarding specific votes. The BJP representatives Gaurav Gautam and Kishan Bedi highlighted concerns over two Congress votes, while Congress responded by contesting the validity of an additional vote cast by Minister Anil Vij. This pause in counting has already extended beyond one hour.

Party Leaders Comment on the Situation

Leader of the Opposition in the Haryana Assembly, Bhupinder Singh Hooda of the Congress, asserted the need for authorization from the Election Commission of India before resuming the counting process. He emphasized the significance of proper procedure in election oversight.

In response, Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli expressed skepticism about the ongoing electoral process, stating that the party seeks transparency. He remarked on the possibility of an unexpected outcome in the election, emphasizing that the BJP’s demands included a thorough investigation of any alleged errors related to voting.

Congress Responds to Allegations

Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal spoke about the situation, stating that she is confident of securing a seat for her party, despite efforts by the BJP. She accused the ruling party of attempting to pressure the Election Commission, arguing that objections were raised only after it became apparent that Congress was leading in the elections. Bhukkal indicated that their own objection was also lodged against Anil Vij’s vote, citing a pattern of tactics used to delay electoral outcomes when opposition parties gain traction.

Bhukkal added that it is crucial for the Election Commission to ensure fairness throughout the electoral process. She expressed hope for an impartial review of the situation, including a request for a video and report to inform the Commission’s decision. Furthermore, she stated confidence in the candidacy of Karmveer Singh Baudh, predicting a comfortable victory.
