‘Husband’s Sperm Count Too Low’: Woman Raped by Father-in-Law, Relative to Force Pregnancy

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident, 40-year-old woman from Vadodara, Gujarat, has accused her father-in-law and her sister-in-law’s husband of repeatedly raping her to force pregnancy after doctors discovered her husband had a low sperm count. She filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Navapura police station, alleging sexual assault and blackmail within the family.

Woman Accuses In-Laws of Rape to Force Pregnancy

Reports suggest the woman was married in February 2024 and soon faced pressure from her in-laws to conceive. Medical reports showed her husband’s sperm count was too low, and despite undergoing IVF treatment, she failed to conceive. When she refused further treatments and suggested adoption, her family opposed the idea.

According to the FIR, in July 2024, the father-in-law allegedly entered her room while she was asleep and raped her. When she cried for help, he responded with violence. The abuse allegedly continued, with the sister-in-law’s husband reportedly raping her multiple times starting December 2024. Despite the assaults, she became pregnant in June 2025 but suffered a miscarriage the following month.

Husband Allegedly Blackmailed Victim to Keep Silent

Furthermore the victim also accused her husband of blackmail, claiming he threatened to circulate intimate photos of her if she reported the crimes. Feeling trapped and traumatized, she finally approached the police in late July 2025.

Police Register FIR, Launch Investigation

In response to the incident, the Navapura police confirmed registering the FIR and have started a formal investigation. The case has brought to light serious issues of sexual violence, coercion, and abuse within families, raising concerns about patriarchal pressures and victim silencing.

In addition, authorities have emphasized the importance of a thorough probe and victim protection. The incident highlights the urgent need for stronger legal safeguards and awareness to support survivors and challenge harmful social norms around family and reproductive rights.
