In a heartbreaking tragedy four children, three girls and one boy, lost their lives due to asphyxiation. This comes after the children accidentally got locked inside a parked car in Dwarapudi village, under Vizianagaram rural mandal, on Sunday.
The victims
The deceased have been identified as Mangi Uday (8), Burle Charumathi (8), Burle Charishma (6), and Kandi Manaswini (6), all residents of Dwarapudi. According to reports, Charumathi and Charishma were siblings.
The incident came to light after family members, unable to locate the children for over three hours, found them unconscious inside the vehicle and broke open the car windows in an attempt to rescue them. Unfortunately, all four were declared dead upon arrival at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vizianagaram.
Suffocation leads to death
According to initial reports, the car had been parked near the Mahila Mandali office two days earlier by an unidentified individual, who allegedly left it unlocked. On Sunday, the children are believed to have entered the car to seek shelter from rain. The doors reportedly locked on their own, trapping the children inside. With high temperatures and limited air circulation, the children are suspected to have died from suffocation.
The tragic discovery of the four children have sent shockwaves through Dwarapudi and surrounding areas. The incident has casted a pall of gloom over the community. Local residents informed the Vizianagaram rural police following the discovery. The police have since launched an investigation to trace the car owner and determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
Minister expresses condolences
Minister for MSME, SERP, and NRI Relations and Empowerment, Kondapalli Srinivas, expressed his condolences over the incident. Vizianagaram MLA Aditi Vijayalaxmi also visited the hospital, met the grieving families, and assured them that she would raise the issue with the state government to ensure necessary support is provided.
As of now, the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination at the Vizianagaram GGH as part of the ongoing investigation.
