E-Sanjeevani Achieves Over 50 Crore Teleconsultations Across India

The CSR Journal Magazine

E-Sanjeevani, India’s national telemedicine initiative, has surpassed 50 crore teleconsultations, registering a total of 50,00,92,730 consultations across all 36 States and Union Territories. This significant achievement took place on September 15 and highlights the platform’s role in enhancing access to healthcare throughout the nation.

The government’s digital health service has been instrumental in improving healthcare delivery by mitigating challenges related to distance and accessibility, particularly for individuals residing in rural or underserved areas. The rise of telemedicine exemplifies its increasing importance in the country’s overall healthcare framework.

As one of the largest telemedicine implementations globally, eSanjeevani plays a critical role in India’s digital health landscape. By allowing citizens to consult healthcare professionals remotely, the platform facilitates healthcare access beyond traditional medical facilities, bringing services closer to the communities where individuals reside.

Rapid Expansion and Daily Utilisation

The service’s usage patterns show notable engagement from specific demographics. For instance, women constitute 57.14 per cent of users, while 40.15 per cent of consultations involve individuals aged 46 and older, including 16.25 per cent of senior citizens aged 60 and above. This data indicates that telemedicine is significantly enhancing healthcare accessibility for these groups.

With the platform’s capacity to cater to various population segments, eSanjeevani has illustrated its effectiveness in providing healthcare solutions to those facing significant hurdles in accessing physical healthcare facilities.

Technological Innovations and Integrated Services

Continuously evolving, eSanjeevani has integrated cutting-edge technologies to enhance the quality of its telemedicine services. A recent advancement is the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence-powered Clinical Decision Support System (AI-CDSS), designed to aid healthcare providers during consultations. This system has garnered national recognition, earning a Gold Award at the National Awards for e-Governance 2026.

Additionally, eSanjeevani has been incorporated into the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112. This integration aims to improve coordination between emergency response services and telemedicine, thereby enhancing access to medical support during crises.

The platform’s expansion now includes specialist OPD consultations through leading government medical facilities such as AIIMS Jodhpur, Jammu, and Patna. This initiative permits patients to receive specialised consultations from renowned healthcare professionals without the need for extensive travelling, thereby augmenting healthcare access further.

Commitment to Universal Health Coverage

E-Sanjeevani is a Made-in-India digital health solution developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), which has provided ongoing technological support since its inception. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been integral in guiding the platform’s evolution to meet the evolving landscape of India’s healthcare needs.

The achievement of 50 crore teleconsultations signifies a notable advancement in India’s digital health journey, showcasing the country’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve public healthcare delivery. As eSanjeevani transitions towards integrating primary and specialist care, it helps ensure more inclusive healthcare access across all citizens.

Through continuous improvements and expansions, the government aims to realise the vision of Universal Health Coverage, ensuring that quality healthcare can reach everyone, irrespective of geographical constraints.
