Devendra Fadnavis Congratulates India National Cricket Team on ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Win

The CSR Journal Magazine

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian cricket team following their triumphant victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The team secured their win against New Zealand in the final match, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Fadnavis noted that the Maharashtra government plans to introduce a resolution in both the legislative assembly and the legislative council to formally celebrate the achievement of Team India.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Fadnavis remarked, “I congratulate Team India on winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by defeating New Zealand. The team, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, has shown remarkable strength, especially with the exceptional contributions from Sanju Samson in the last three matches.” His comments emphasized the significance of this victory in highlighting India’s prowess in the sport.

The Indian team won the final by a substantial margin of 96 runs, marking a historic achievement as they became the first nation to win the T20 World Cup on home soil. This victory also made India the first country to claim consecutive T20 World Cup titles, following their earlier win in 2024, and the first to lift the trophy three times, with previous victories in 2007 and 2024.

In the championship match, New Zealand won the toss and decided to field first. However, the decision proved costly as Abhishek Sharma showcased a return to form with a record-breaking fifty, scoring 52 runs off just 21 balls, including six fours and three sixes. His impressive partnership of 98 runs with Sanju Samson set the foundation for India’s innings. Samson further built upon the momentum by forming another crucial partnership with Ishan Kishan, who contributed 54 runs off 25 balls, which included four boundaries and four sixes. Together, they propelled India beyond the 200-run milestone by the 16th over.

Despite a slight slowdown during the innings, Shivam Dube added valuable runs with an unbeaten 26 runs off eight balls, helping India finish at a commanding total of 255 runs for the loss of five wickets. This figure marked the highest score ever recorded in T20 World Cup finals. For New Zealand, James Neesham emerged as the leading wicket-taker, finishing his spell with figures of 3 wickets for 46 runs.

In response to the 256-run target, India’s bowling attack, led by Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah, successfully dismantled the New Zealand batting line-up, reducing them to 72 runs for the loss of five wickets. Despite a half-century from Tim Seifert, who scored 52 runs off 26 balls with two fours and five sixes, New Zealand struggled to maintain their innings. A brief partnership between Daryl Mitchell and captain Mitchell Santner, who scored 43 runs off 35 balls featuring three fours and two sixes, could not avert collapse as India continued to take wickets. Ultimately, New Zealand was all out for 159 runs, solidifying India’s victory in the final.
