Students associated with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) conducted a “Campus Justice March” on Saturday at Delhi University’s North Campus, focusing on the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for women. The demonstration came as a response to ongoing incidents of violence against women, with participants expressing their anxiety regarding the prevailing atmosphere of insecurity.

Demonstrators voiced their concerns loudly, questioning the persistent risks women face and the effectiveness of current safety protocols. They asserted that despite extensive discussions in public forums and assurances from various authorities, incidents of sexual violence against women remain distressingly frequent.

The SFI members called for greater accountability from both institutions and authorities, urging for transformative measures that would enable women to navigate campuses and public spaces without fear or limitations related to safety.

Demands for Enhanced Institutional Accountability

The march featured placards bearing messages such as “Why are women still not safe in India?” and “Nirbhayas are still happening in India,” highlighting the urgency of the situation. The protesters contended that a substantial accountability framework is necessary to address the issue of women’s safety adequately and effectively.
