Traffic Congestion Anticipated in South Delhi

Traffic congestion is expected in several key areas of South Delhi as devotees gather for the Durga Puja celebrations in Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) and Greater Kailash-2 (GK-2). The Delhi Traffic Police has issued warnings regarding potential disruptions on eight major roads surrounding these localities. These restrictions will be enforced daily from 4 pm until midnight, lasting until October 20.

During the specified hours, private vehicles belonging to devotees will be prohibited from entering CR Park and GK-2. This measure aims to manage the anticipated influx of visitors and mitigate traffic issues in the area.

Roads Affected by Traffic Restrictions

The traffic police has identified several roads that may experience congestion due to the celebrations. Key affected routes include the Outer Ring Road, stretching from Vasant Vihar to the Modi Mill flyover, and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, located near CR Park. Other significant stretches include August Kranti Marg, which lies between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, from Khanpur to Jamia Hamdard.

Additional roads facing potential congestion include Guru Ravidas Marg, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, and Josip Broz Tito Marg, along with various internal roads within CR Park and GK-2. Motorists are advised to prepare for possible delays, particularly during evening hours when crowds are expected to peak.

The traffic restrictions are necessary due to the narrow roads and limited parking facilities in residential areas where the Durga Puja pandals are situated. The anticipated arrival of large numbers of devotees in private vehicles could exacerbate parking challenges and lead to significant traffic congestion.

Public Transport Recommendations for Devotees

The Delhi Traffic Police has recommended that devotees utilise the Delhi Metro to reach CR Park, thereby reducing road congestion around the pandals. Visitors can disembark at the Greater Kailash and Nehru Enclave metro stations, both of which are within walking distance of the festivities.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the affected routes unless absolutely necessary. It is advisable to allow for extra travel time and adhere to the instructions provided by traffic personnel stationed in the area. This guidance aims to facilitate smoother traffic flow and enhance safety during the celebrations.

In light of the expected crowds at the Durga Puja pandals during the evenings, commuters in South Delhi should check road conditions prior to their journeys. Considering alternative routes may also prove beneficial in avoiding congestion. Those attending the celebrations are urged to opt for public transport, while other motorists should plan their travel in accordance with the restrictions in effect until October 20.
