A 19-year-old resident of Delhi has been apprehended in Goa following a tragic vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man. The incident took place in North Goa on February 23. Shaurya Goyal, from Hauz Khas, is being charged with reckless driving after his car collided with another vehicle at a junction, leading to severe consequences.

Details of the Collision

According to authorities, the accident occurred when Goyal was driving his Mahindra Thar in a careless manner. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Wilson D’souza reported that Goyal lost control of his vehicle while travelling from Mapusa to Anjuna, ultimately crashing into another car. The impact of the collision resulted in critical injuries for Bhagat Ram Sharma, the 65-year-old victim from Madhya Pradesh, who later died in the hospital.

Casualties and Injuries

The collision not only claimed Sharma’s life but also left four other occupants in the second vehicle injured. Among those affected were Sharma’s wife, who sustained a fracture, and a three-year-old child who received minor injuries. The injured individuals were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Police Statements and Procedural Updates

Following the incident, the police confirmed that all post-mortem formalities for the deceased have been completed, and arrangements are being made to return his body to his family. SDPO D’souza mentioned that Goyal has been cooperative during the investigation. Both vehicles involved in the accident are currently held at the police station for further examination.
