Delhi Police Arrests Man for Illegal LPG Cylinder Refilling and Black Marketing

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a recent operation, the Delhi Police apprehended a 46-year-old man, Yogesh Gupta, in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area for allegedly refilling LPG cylinders without authorization and engaging in black market activities. The arrest followed a tip-off that led police to raid a shop linked to Gupta, where they caught him in the act.

Authorities recovered two domestic LPG cylinders, three smaller cylinders, a gas transferring pipe, an LPG refilling machine, and a weighing scale during the operation. An FIR has been lodged at the Shakarpur police station under the Essential Commodities Act alongside pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigations are ongoing.

Major Haul in Mundka Area

In a separate incident, the Delhi Police Crime Branch executed a significant raid in the Mundka region, targeting illegal hoarding and storage of LPG cylinders. Acting on credible information, a specialized team from the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell conducted the operation at an Indane Gas Service agency. A total of 610 LPG cylinders were seized, found to be stored in violation of safety regulations and licensing conditions. The cylinders recovered included 197 filled and 392 empty containers from various oil marketing companies, such as Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas, all stored improperly within the premises.

Licensing Violations Noted During Raid

Officials indicated that the gas agency was only authorized to distribute commercial LPG cylinders from Indane and that the presence of cylinders from other companies constituted a serious breach of regulatory standards. Among the seized items were also 21 smaller cylinders. Consequently, a case has been registered with the Crime Branch police station under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The owner of the agency was absent during the raid and currently remains at large, prompting further investigative efforts.
