A birthday celebration turned deadly in Rohini, Delhi, when a man allegedly murdered his wife and mother-in-law following a family dispute. The accused has been arrested, officials confirmed.

When Did the Crime Take Place?

The crime came to light after a call reached the KNK Marg Police Station at around 3:50 pm on Saturday. The caller, Megh Sinha, discovered his mother, 63-year-old Kusum Sinha, and sister, 34-year-old Priya Sehgal, fatally injured inside a locked residence in Sector-17.

Megh explained that his mother had come to Priya’s home two days earlier to help resolve tensions that had surfaced during the birthday celebration of her grandson. A disagreement over exchanged gifts had apparently escalated.

“When I couldn’t reach them on the phone, I went to their place only to find the flat locked with blood stains near the door. Inside, my mother and sister were lying in a pool of blood,” he recounted, visibly shaken. “He brutally killed them with a scissors.”

Accused Flees With Kids

Following the discovery, family members forced entry and found that the victims had suffered stab wounds. The suspect, Yogesh Sehgal Priya’s husband was reportedly unemployed and fled with their two sons, aged around 15 and 16.

Shortly afterward, police arrested Yogesh and recovered a pair of blood-stained clothes and what is believed to be the murder weapon a pair of scissors.

Authorities are treating the incident as a domestic conflict that went tragically awry. DCP (Rohini), Rajeev Ranjan, said that preliminary investigations point to a dispute as the likely trigger. “Kusum had stayed on to help resolve matters. The argument, however, continued until Saturday,” he stated.

Family Members of the Victim In Shock

Priya’s brother, Himalaya, expressed profound shock, “My mother had said she would settle things at Priya’s house and be back. But when we called and didn’t get any response, we went over and saw blood on the lock. Inside, they were found soaked in blood.”

He added, “My brother-in-law had killed them and fled with the children. They had been married for 17 years. But who kills their wife and mother‑in‑law like this? It is so inhuman.”

Crime scene investigators and forensic teams have been deployed, and the investigation remains ongoing. Yogesh is currently in police custody, and formal charges of double murder have been filed.
