The Delhi High Court has expressed its intention to issue an interim direction aimed at protecting the personality rights of actress Sonakshi Sinha. This development arose during a hearing presided over by Justice Jyoti Singh, who was considering an application submitted by Sinha for an injunction against the unauthorized use of her identity.

Court Seeks Evidence of Misuse

During the legal proceedings, the court inquired about specific instances of alleged infringement. Sinha’s legal counsel pointed out the unauthorized utilization of her persona by various AI chatbots. In response, the court instructed the legal representatives to provide a digital copy of the disputed links, allowing for the submission of additional documentation in a sealed cover within two days. The next hearing for the case has been scheduled for July 6.

Precedent of Protecting Personality Rights

This ruling follows a recent decision by the Delhi High Court that granted protection to the personality rights of Ramdev, the founder of Patanjali Ayurved, through a John Doe directive. The court has been actively granting similar protections to several public figures across various sectors.

Historical Context of Legal Protections

Notable individuals who have received such protections include singer Jubin Nautiyal, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, and actors Kajol, R. Madhavan, and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. Actor Salman Khan has also approached the court for similar legal measures.

Wide-Ranging Scope of the Court’s Orders

In separate cases, the High Court has extended protective measures to spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar of The Art of Living Foundation, Tollywood actor Nagarjuna, and Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, alongside filmmaker Karan Johar.

Recent AI-Related Cases

In a recent situation, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary received legal relief after voicing concerns regarding misleading AI-generated videos circulating online. Additionally, a John Doe order was granted to podcaster Raj Shamani, reflecting the court’s acknowledgment of his influence within the digital content realm.
