CSR News: Women’s Riding Center Launched in Mumbai to facilitate two-wheeler riding training for women

Zomato, India’s food ordering and delivery platform, announced the launch of Women’s Riding Centers, a Zomato-powered initiative that facilitates two-wheeler riding training for women. Through this initiative, Zomato aims to empower women by enhancing their mobility, enabling them to further their personal needs and unlock livelihood opportunities.
The first Center belonging to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai was inaugurated by Dr. Bhushan Gagrani, I.A.S., Municipal Commissioner, BMC. He also felicitated top-performing women delivery partners in the city. Zomato also launched a film showcasing how these Centers will empower women with essential skills such as riding a two-wheeler thus opening doors to diverse professional opportunities, including gig work.
Collaborating with national and local organizations with a strong on-ground presence like the BMC, Zomato will facilitate training for women who can benefit from lessons on riding two-wheeler Electric Vehicles (EVs) arranged by Zomato. In addition to riding skills, this initiative will train women in essential life skills like using a smartphone to navigate cities and strong communication abilities for all aspects of life.
Zomato will facilitate these trainings via physical centers in various cities, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad etc. The initiative aims to provide practical skills and a supportive learning environment, alongside other benefits like:
– A dedicated physical center for women to meet, inquire and seek guidance on working in the gig economy.
– A tangible meeting point that reassures family members who may have concerns about women undertaking delivery work.
– Guidance to explore and understand the available EV-bike options for interested participants.
Dr. Bhushan Gagrani, I.A.S., Municipal Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, commented on the initiative, “Providing women with practical skills, such as riding two-wheelers, opens up a world of opportunities. The Women’s Riding Centre initiative by Zomato directly addresses the need for improved mobility and access to non-traditional livelihood options, which are essential for women’s empowerment. We are proud to support this initiative that enables women to take control of their futures.”
Speaking on the initiative, Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Zomato, said, “At Zomato, we are committed to building a sustainable and inclusive food delivery ecosystem where women have equal access to opportunities and can contribute to the growth of our industry. The Women’s Riding Centre initiative is about more than just teaching women to ride two-wheelers; it’s about providing them with essential life skills and access to economic independence. This is a significant step towards building an inclusive and supportive gig work environment and we’re very grateful to all the NGO and government partners who have come forward to support this initiative.”
This initiative is part of Zomato’s livelihood program for women breaking gender barriers and empowering women by providing them with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the logistics sector, with a goal of facilitating the training for 10,000 women for roles across Zomato-affiliated companies. Currently, over 5,000 women are involved in logistics roles across the Zomato and Blinkit ecosystems.
