India’s Jadumani Singh produced a commanding display to defeat Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman 5-0 in the pre-quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games boxing competition on Sunday, securing his place in the last eight. The Army boxer dedicated his victory to the heroes of the Kargil War on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Backed by a vocal crowd at Glasgow’s SEC Centre, Jadumani controlled the contest from start to finish with a composed tactical performance. The unanimous win leaves him one victory away from assuring India of a boxing medal at the Games.

Jadumani Dominates Contest Against Pakistan

The Indian boxer began cautiously, using the opening round to assess Rehman’s style and movement before gradually taking control of the bout.

Once he settled into his rhythm, Jadumani repeatedly found his target with sharp hooks and straight punches. His speed and footwork proved difficult for Rehman to handle as the Indian steadily built his advantage.

The pressure told in the second round when Rehman was handed a standing count after Jadumani landed a powerful right hand, putting the contest firmly in the Indian’s favour.

Indian Boxer Seals Unanimous Victory

Holding a comfortable lead heading into the final round, Jadumani remained composed and dictated the pace of the contest from the centre of the ring.

Confident in his position, he invited Rehman to attack before using quick counter-punches and movement to maintain control of the bout.

All five judges awarded the contest to Jadumani, handing him a unanimous 5-0 victory and a place in the quarterfinals.

Victory Dedicated to Kargil Heroes

The win carried added significance as it came on Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War.

“I want to dedicate this win to Kargil heroes. I want to defeat everyone and get gold for India,” Jadumani said after the bout.

India’s campaign also received another boost as Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar advanced to the quarterfinals. She defeated Malawi’s Deborah Mtenje by Referee Stop Contest (RSC) in the second round of their pre-quarterfinal bout.

Jadumani is now just one victory away from securing a medal for India at the Commonwealth Games.
