CNG Pipe Burst Incident at Jamshedpur Petrol Pump Claims Worker’s Life

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic accident at a petrol station in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, was recorded on CCTV, revealing the sudden bursting of a high-pressure CNG pipe. The incident occurred during the refuelling process when a section of the nozzle reportedly struck 25-year-old worker Tushar Kumar on the head.

The accident took place at a Bharat Petroleum pump, leading to severe consequences for the individual involved. The CCTV footage demonstrates the alarming moment the pipe ruptured, sending a piece of it violently towards Tushar. The impact resulted in serious head injuries, prompting immediate action from his fellow employees.

They quickly transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Sadly, despite the swift response, Tushar Kumar succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. This incident has left a profound impact on both his colleagues and the local community.

Panic and Evacuation at the Petrol Station

The explosion caused panic at the petrol station, leading numerous individuals present to flee the premises in fear. As gas started to leak due to the pipe burst, the situation became increasingly chaotic. Customers abandoned their vehicles and sought safety away from the immediate danger.

Fortunately, the leak was subsequently contained by emergency protocols in place at the petrol pump. The rapid response managed to avert what could have been a more catastrophic situation, but the incident emphasised the potential risks associated with handling compressed gas systems.

The petrol pump has since been sealed while an investigation is launched to examine the circumstances surrounding the pipe burst. A team from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) has been tasked with inspecting the integrity of the CNG system, including the state of the pipes and overall safety measures employed at the facility.

Compensation For Victim’s Family

In the aftermath of this tragic event, Tushar Kumar’s family has reached an agreement with the petrol station management regarding compensation. Reports indicate that the family will receive Rs 10 lakh as a part of the settlement for the loss of their loved one.

Additionally, the management of the Bharat Petroleum pump has pledged to fulfil Tushar’s financial dues and extend further assistance through GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited) to help the family cope with this unforeseen tragedy.

This incident has sparked discussions about workplace safety regulations and the need for stringent protocols to prevent future occurrences of similar accidents. Authorities will be closely monitoring the situation as investigations continue.
