On September 5, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Varanasi to assess the damage caused by recent floods. His inspection included an aerial survey of the most severely affected areas and direct engagement with flood victims at relief camps. The Chief Minister interacted with families in distress, providing them with essential relief materials and assuring them of the government’s support during this challenging time.

During his visit to Vidya Vihar Inter College in Salarpur, the Chief Minister distributed various relief items to families whose homes were impacted. Yogi Adityanath expressed solidarity with those affected, chanting “Har Har Mahadev” to uplift the spirits of the crowd gathered at the event.

Efforts to Provide Immediate Financial Assistance

The Chief Minister announced a plan to distribute Rs 4 lakh to affected families within a 24-hour timeframe. This financial aid aims to support families dealing with loss stemming from the floods, including incidents such as house collapses and agricultural damage. Yogi Adityanath indicated that the government is committed to ensuring that help reaches those in need as swiftly as possible.

He further urged officials to expedite the distribution of compensation to farmers whose crops have been damaged due to the flooding. Assistance will also be provided under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme for families rendered homeless. The Chief Minister assured the public that effective governance can lead to meaningful relief efforts during crises.

According to reports, approximately 567 families across 16 wards have been adversely affected by the floods. To provide immediate assistance, 48 boats will be deployed to aid in transporting supplies and services to those in need. Further measures include the distribution of Ayushman cards to facilitate healthcare for the affected population.

Health and Safety Measures Post-flood

Yogi Adityanath highlighted the importance of public health and safety following the floods. He confirmed that once floodwaters recede, comprehensive sanitisation and disinfectant spraying will occur to mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases. This proactive approach signifies the government’s commitment to not only addressing immediate needs but also preventing future health crises.

The Chief Minister noted that the agricultural losses involve 1,131 farmers, adding that appropriate measures would be taken to prevent the spread of diseases once conditions improve. He attributed the success of these initiatives to the electorate’s choice in leadership, reinforcing the idea that effective governance plays a crucial role in disaster response.

In his visit, the Chief Minister also honoured the legacy of freedom fighter Jaggu Ram Maurya by laying a wreath at his statue. His tour of the flood relief camp included a personal inspection of the facilities, demonstrating a hands-on approach to governance. Yogi Adityanath interacted with children in the relief camps, inquiring about their educational needs and ensuring that their well-being is prioritised during the crisis.
