The CSR Journal Magazine

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, officially presented a compensation cheque amounting to Rs 200 crore to representatives of families displaced by the Veligonda project on August 19, 2026. This event occurred at the Assembly premises and is part of the government’s ongoing initiative to compensate those affected by submergence due to major irrigation projects.

With this recent disbursement, the total compensation paid to the affected families has reached Rs 518 crore. Earlier this year, on June 27, the government allocated Rs 300 crore, and the latest release continues to address the financial impact of the project on local communities.

Government’s Commitment to Displaced Families

During the cheque presentation, Chief Minister Naidu highlighted the government’s recognition of the sacrifices made by both farmers and families displaced for the construction of irrigation infrastructure. He assured the attendees that the remaining compensation would be distributed in due course, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by the project.

The emotional response from the displaced families was noted, as they expressed gratitude for the financial support they have received. Various public representatives and leaders from the former Prakasam district attended the event, indicating the wide-reaching impact of the displacement.

According to official statements, the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme has already provided approximately Rs 318 crore to 2,557 families who have built homes independently. On this occasion, CM Naidu also distributed an additional Rs 200 crore under this same scheme, benefiting 1,600 families directly affected by the Veligonda project.

Infrastructure Development for Rehabilitation

In addition to financial assistance, the government is also focusing on providing essential infrastructure facilities in seven rehabilitation colonies designated for displaced families. Infrastructure development has been completed in six out of these seven colonies, with the only exception being Vemulakota.

This ongoing effort aims to facilitate smooth transitions for the families into the Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) colonies, where they will move into the newly constructed housing. The government has prioritised this initiative to ensure the wellbeing of those displaced by infrastructural development projects.

As families relocate into the prepared houses, it is anticipated that these efforts will improve their living conditions significantly. The completion of infrastructure projects is crucial for ensuring long-term stability and support for the affected communities as they adjust to their new environments.
