The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has urged the Delhi Police to immediately halt any actions that involve the unlawful detention and intimidation of citizens attempting to access Jantar Mantar. The party claims that a climate of fear and suppression has been fostered around this significant protest location. This appeal was made through a post by CJP spokesperson Saurav Das on social media platform X on July 25, 2026.

In the statement titled “Stop Laying Siege at Jantar Mantar,” the CJP accused the Delhi Police of adopting increasingly authoritarian measures that allegedly obstruct citizens engaged in peaceful protests. The organisation highlighted that for over a month, thousands of individuals, including students, parents, and educators, have gathered at Jantar Mantar to demand accountability from the government concerning various issues such as examination paper leaks and recruitment failures.

Accusations of Obstruction and Intimidation

The CJP has reported that individuals attempting to join the peaceful protest have faced detainment, with volunteers providing essential supplies, including food and water, being obstructed. The party expressed its concerns that rather than facilitating a peaceful democratic protest, the police have resorted to intimidation tactics.

The organisation emphasised that Jantar Mantar serves as “India’s designated space for democratic dissent,” where citizens are merely exercising their constitutional rights. The CJP has called on the Commissioner of Police in Delhi to instruct officers to cease alleged hostile actions against citizens and allow essential supplies and support to reach the protestors.

Moreover, the party urged the Delhi Police to uphold citizens’ fundamental right to assemble peacefully and express dissent, underscoring that no authority should engage in measures that isolate or suppress peaceful demonstrations.

Continuing Agitation Until Demands Are Met

CJP activist Ashutosh Ranka echoed similar sentiments, asserting that the Delhi Police cannot prevent citizens from reaching Jantar Mantar or from providing assistance to those involved in the protests. The CJP has indicated that their agitation will persist until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns, a demand that has been gaining traction among protestors.

In a recent development, CJP representatives had a nearly two-hour discussion with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, during which the government allegedly requested additional time until Saturday afternoon to consider the resignation demand. This conversation has underscored the gravity of the situation as the protests continue.

This ongoing situation gained further public attention after activist Sonam Wangchuk concluded a 26-day hunger strike, having received written assurances from the Union Government regarding reforms in the NEET examination and the larger framework for competitive testing in India. This may signal a shift in governmental responsiveness to the concerns raised by citizens at Jantar Mantar.
