Centre Sanctions Additional Aid to Five States and J&K

The CSR Journal Magazine

A committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sanctioned an amount of Rs 1,912.99 crore as additional Central assistance to several states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This funding is aimed at addressing the impacts of various natural disasters, including floods, flash floods, cloudbursts, and the cyclone ‘Montha’, which affected these regions during the year 2025. The funding is sourced from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and will be provided subject to adjustments based on the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

Breakdown of Financial Aid by State

Of the total approved amount, Andhra Pradesh has been allocated Rs 341.48 crore, Chhattisgarh will receive Rs 15.70 crore, Gujarat is set to get Rs 778.67 crore, Himachal Pradesh will obtain Rs 288.39 crore, Nagaland is granted Rs 158.41 crore, and Jammu and Kashmir will receive Rs 330.34 crore. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed this distribution in an official statement. The sanctioned financial aid is in addition to the funds already released to these states from the SDRF.

Annual Disaster Funding Overview

During the financial year 2025-26, the Central Government allocated Rs 20,735.20 crore to 28 states from the SDRF and provided Rs 3,628.18 crore to 21 states from the NDRF. Additional support also included Rs 5,373.20 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) provided to 23 states and Rs 1,189.56 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF), which was distributed to 21 states. This comprehensive funding reflects the government’s commitment to disaster relief and recovery across the country.

Impact of Cyclone ‘Montha’ on Andhra Pradesh

In December of the previous year, Andhra Pradesh ministers Nara Lokesh and Vangalapudi Anitha met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. They presented a report detailing the extensive damage caused by Cyclone ‘Montha’, which led to losses amounting to Rs 6,352 crore and impacted 3,109 villages within the state. Approximately 1.92 lakh people were evacuated to relief camps as part of the emergency response. The report highlighted significant destruction to infrastructure, roads, and housing, underscoring the urgent need for Central assistance to aid in recovery efforts.
