The Brazilian football icon Cafu has emphasised the importance of grassroots football initiatives that focus on social inclusion and the empowerment of young girls in India. His remarks were made during an interaction with girls from the Dreaming in Slums Foundation, an NGO that employs football to impart life skills to underprivileged girls. This engagement was part of the Global Impact Forum II – Civilisational Legacy, which was presented by APG Globale.

Cafu expressed deep appreciation for the positive impact these initiatives have on children’s lives. He articulated how such programmes not only provide opportunities but also instil respect and training, ultimately building a brighter future for the youth involved. “This is good for children, for social inclusion. It gives them respect, training, and this is better for the future,” he stated. His experience with the organisation left him feeling “very happy and impressed,” reinforcing his affinity for India.

Call for Enhanced Investment in Indian Football

The former captain of the Brazil national team highlighted the necessity for increased investment in football development within India. Cafu stated, “India needs to invest for future in football,” underscoring the significance of nurturing talent at a young age. He mentioned the upcoming match between India and Brazil scheduled to take place in Kolkata next month, expressing his enthusiasm about India’s future in the sport.

His visit included a friendly match with the young girls from the foundation, emphasising the role of sport in personal growth. Cafu spent time discussing the impact of athletics on confidence and self-esteem, particularly among girls from less privileged backgrounds. He asserted that utilising football as an empowerment tool could lead to transformative change in these communities.

This grassroots initiative aligns with broader goals of social upliftment and inclusion, with Cafu’s involvement potentially enhancing visibility for such initiatives across the country. Upcoming International Friendlies for the Blue Tigers

The Indian national team, known as the Blue Tigers, is preparing for a series of international friendlies against higher-ranked teams.
