Kamal Haasan’s ‘Hindia’ Jab at BJP, Backs CM Stalin on Delimitation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan during a meeting in Chennai | PTI
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday joined the ongoing debate over the ‘Hindi imposition’ and parliamentary constituency delimitation. He accused the BJP-led central government of attempting to “turn India into Hindia” by forcing non-Hindi speaking states to accept Hindi.
Haasan’s remarks underscore growing concerns about the imposition of Hindi and its potential to erode India’s diverse linguistic and regional identity.

What does Kamal Haasan Say?

Speaking at an All-Party Meeting of Tamil parties, Haasan criticised the central government’s push to make Hindi the predominant language across all states. “The centre is trying to make all states speak Hindi and win elections with a majority. Our dream is ‘India’… theirs is ‘Hindia’,” he said.

Haasan further went on criticising the central government’s plans for delimitation of parliamentary constituencies. He warned that the proposal could undermine India’s federal structure and diversity.
“The issue of parliamentary constituency delimitation based on population is just not a concern for Tamil Nadu” to elaborate that it also affects Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and the North-Eastern states,” he said.

MK Stalin’s Resolution

The All-Party Meeting on Wednesday chaired by Tamil Nadu CM M. K. Stalin passed a resolution urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the 1971 census population should be used for delimitation from 2026 for the next 30 years. The meeting also criticised the government’s move, warning that it could harm India’s democratic and federal principles.
The resolution reads, “It is entirely unjustifiable to reduce parliamentary representation of Tamil Nadu and other South Indian states solely because they have proactively implemented population control measures in the national interest.”
Various political parties, including the DMK, Congress, and Communist parties, attended the meeting.

Wildlife NGOs Join PETA India’s Call to Protect At-Risk Rhesus Macaques

Delhi, India: This morning, ahead of the March 10 Parliamentary session, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India and 30 wildlife and animal welfare advocacy organisations sent a letter urging the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) to reinstate legal protections for rhesus macaques under Schedule II of the Wild Life Protection Act (WPA), 1972, and to grant them the highest protection, afforded to many other indigenous species, under Schedule I.
The joint letter points out that the protections—which were removed in 2022 after being in place for 50 years—would prevent rhesus macaques from being killed or captured for the experimentation, meat, or pet industries. It also stresses that, without the protections, the management of rhesus macaques in nature now falls not to experienced forest officials but rather to municipal corporations or law enforcement—neither of which has the expertise, training, or resources required to manage wildlife and which will likely result in inhumane handling or neglect, escalating human-monkey conflicts, and increasing risks to public safety.
The absence of official safeguards also leaves rhesus macaques vulnerable to exploiters who will force them back into street performances—cruel spectacles that have been outlawed since 1998. Rhesus macaques are now also at risk of abduction from their natural habitats, sale into the illegal pet trade, exploitation for social media content, experiments, and even slaughter for meat. A recent report reveals how monkeys kept as pets endure abuse for online videos—beatings, burns, and amputations to elicit reactions, all while suffering loneliness, confinement, and eventual abandonment.
“This regressive shift not only erases years of progress in protecting rhesus macaques—it also leaves them vulnerable to horrific cruelty and exploitation,” says PETA India Science Policy Advisor Dr Anjana Aggarwal. “Stripping rhesus macaques of vital protections is a travesty, and this joint letter is the latest effort in PETA India’s campaign to amplify pressure on decision-makers to rectify it.”
Distinctly social beings, rhesus macaques thrive in large, active groups, are nursed by their mothers for up to one year and love to climb and swim. In addition to being revered in Hinduism, they fulfil an important role in local ecosystems by dispersing seeds – due to their frequent consumption of fruit – and their absence can be detrimental to forests.
In the experimentation industry, which is already bleeding forests dry of rhesus macaques in Asia, monkeys are stolen from the wild, crammed into small wooden crates, and transported in the dark, terrifying cargo holds of planes for as long as 30 hours. The stress of capture and transportation can weaken their immune systems, increasing the risk of spreading zoonotic diseases in India and around the world. In laboratories, monkeys are typically confined – alone – to small metal cages and tormented in experiments in which they’re cut open, poisoned, crippled, forced to become addicted to drugs, electroshocked, and killed.

Kannada Actress Ranya Rao Arrested for Smuggling Gold
Bengaluru: Kannada film actress Ranya Rao was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Monday. The arrest was made for allegedly attempting to smuggle 14.8 kg of gold bars, worth over Rs 12 crore, from Dubai. Rao is also the daughter of a DGP-rank IPS officer.
According to reports, Rao was held by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) following a tip-off. The arrest occurred while she was flying back from Dubai on an Emirates flight.

Smuggled Gold Concealed in Jacket

Further Investigations into the matter revealed that Rao had made 27 trips to Dubai within a year. This raised suspicions among the DRI officials of her involvement in illicit activities. The officials stated that Rao hid the gold bars on her person. They believe that she was possibly intending to exploit her connections to bypass customs checks.
According to DRI officials, Rao identified herself as the daughter of senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, Director General of Police in the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation. Furthermore, she allegedly attempted to seek police assistance during the security checks.
The actor is said to have smuggled the gold by hiding the bars in her clothing, with a large quantity allegedly concealed inside her jacket.

DRI’s Statement

A DRI statement released on Tuesday said, “Upon examination, gold bars weighing 14.2 kg were found ingeniously concealed on her person. The contraband, valued at Rs 12.56 crore, was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.”
The statement further added, “Following the interception, DRI officers conducted a search at her residential premises located on Lavelle Road in Bengaluru, where she resides with her husband. The search resulted in the seizure of gold jewelry worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.67 crore.”

Investigation Underway

Meanwhile, the DRI is now investigating whether any law enforcement officers, including Rao’s IPS father, were aware of or assisted in her alleged smuggling activities. After her arrest, Rao was taken to the DRI headquarters in Bengaluru’s HBR Layout for further questioning.
The actress, who had also appeared in films like Wagah (2016) and Pataki (2017), was later produced before an economic offences court. The court remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody.

Indian Railway

Indian Army Faces Threat from Chinese Red Tip Bullets

Indian Army PTI Photo
The Indian Army is facing a growing threat from Chinese-made red tip bullets, which have raised serious concerns about the safety of soldiers. These bullets, designed with a sharp metal tip, are capable of penetrating standard bulletproof jackets and ballistic helmets, making them highly lethal in combat situations.
In recent encounters in Jammu & Kashmir and Manipur, red tip bullets have been responsible for multiple casualties among Indian security forces. Primarily developed in China, these bullets are used in AK-series rifles, posing a significant challenge in counter-insurgency operations.

Bulletproof Jackets and Ballistic Helmets

To counter this threat, SMPP, an Indian defence manufacturer, has developed advanced bulletproof jackets and ballistic helmets capable of withstanding armour-piercing rounds. The Indian Army’s Para Commandos have already procured these upgraded protective gears, while forces such as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu & Kashmir Police have also begun acquiring them for enhanced protection.

Lt. Gen. RC Srikant, Chief of Staff of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, acknowledged the serious nature of the threat posed by red tip bullets. He assured that the Army is actively working on equipping soldiers with the best possible protective gear to counter emerging threats. “The recent developments are a grave concern, and we are doing everything necessary to safeguard our personnel,” he stated.
With the growing deployment of these armour-piercing bullets, the Indian defence establishment remains focused on upgrading security measures to ensure the safety of its soldiers on the battlefield.

Oarfish Doomsday fish
Oarfish Doomsday fish

Messenger Of Sea God कहलाती है Oarfish

Trump to Impose Reciprocal Tariffs on India and Other Countries from April 2

Trump Congress Address
US President Donald Trump announced that reciprocal tariffs will be implemented on countries including India from April 2 2025. He defended his harsh tariffs policy in his first address of his second term in a joint session of the Congress.
Trump said, ” Under the Trump administration, you will pay a tariff and in some cases a rather large one. Other countries have used tariffs against us for decades and now it’s our turn to start using them against those other countries. On average the European Union China, Brazil India Mexico and Canada have you heard of them and countless other nations charge us tremendously higher tariffs than we charge them. It’s very unfair. India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100 percent.”

Reciprocal Tariffs from April 2025

The concept of reciprocal tariff was explained by US President Donald Trump in his address. He said, “Whatever they tariff us, we will tariff them. Whatever they tax us, we will tax them. If they use non-monetary barriers to keep us out of their market, we will do the same.”
He added that this was part of his vision of making America rich again as this move will help create trillions of dollars in terms of economic growth, which will also aid in creating many jobs.
President Trump humorously said that the tariffs were originally to be implemented on April 1, but was deliberately moved to April 2. He said, “I wanted to make it April 1st, but I didn’t want to be accused of April Fool’s Day. That’s not — this one day was — cost us a lot of money. But we’re going to do it in April. I’m a very superstitious person. April 2nd, reciprocal tariffs kick in. And whatever they tariff us, other countries, we will tariff them.”

Implications

This announcement has raised concerns about the potential disruptions to the growing trade relationship between India and the United States. Currently, India’s tariff rates, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, textiles, and pharmaceuticals, are significantly higher than those of the US.
Some of the experts have predicted that the implementation of reciprocal tariffs could disproportionately affect India. According to a recent Goldman Sachs report, the impact could be felt at the country level, product level, or through non-tariff barriers.
One of the main areas of focus could be the automotive sector, which Trump specifically mentioned, along with other industries such as agriculture and electronics.
Indian officials and business leaders are closely monitoring the situation, with some hoping that ongoing negotiations might soften the impact of these tariffs. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s recent trip to the United States to meet with the new United States Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, underscores India’s proactive approach to addressing these trade concerns.
As the 2 April deadline approaches, the global community will wait with bated breath to see how nations will respond to the new US trade policy.

Delhi Pollution Control Committee New Plan Makes Technology a Priority

Delhi Pollution
The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will soon come up with technology-based solutions to counter pollution, like the launch of an app or software that will analyse real-time pollution and an online inspection module for officers. This will be a digital helpdesk to assist citizens in filing complaints in the most effective and convenient manner. Alongside, there will be arrangements made for drone surveillance to monitor industries and drains. Data from various state recognised laboratories will also help DPCC in its mission to fight pollution in Delhi.

The Proposed Plan

This plan was decided during the 74th board meeting on February 13, where the DPCC reviewed all necessary actions. The board concluded that using technology for pollution monitoring will be a priority. The meeting also decided to include the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and government college laboratories to expand the data network.
Currently, the DPCC operates inside a lab in the ISBT building where wastewater, water, air, and noise parameters are separately analysed. But, the government pollution control agency faces problems with tight deadlines in various matters. For example, in August 2024, the Supreme Court issued a directive stating that all vacant positions inside DPCC must be filled by April 30, 2025. However, this deadline is difficult for the DPCC to meet, which is accelerating its recruitment efforts by using UPSC hiring, CPCB waitlist and bringing in contracted staff.
