Controversy Over Marathi Language Intensifies After RSS Leader’s Remarks

Recent comments by senior RSS figure Suresh ‘Bhaiyaji’ Joshi have sparked a heated political discussion in Maharashtra about the status of Marathi as the state’s main language. At an event in Ghatkopar, Joshi stirred up trouble by stating that “Mumbai has no language” and hinting that people living in the city don’t need to learn Marathi. He pointed out that areas like Ghatkopar speak Gujarati, while parts of Girgaum use more Marathi, suggesting that newcomers coming to Mumbai might not have to pick up Marathi.
The remark sparked immediate criticism from various political groups the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut slammed Joshi’s statement calling it an insult to state identity. He challenged the legitimacy of such comments asking if anyone would dare make similar claims about the local languages of other cities like Kolkata, Lucknow, or Chennai. Aditya Thackeray, a Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also stated that Marathi is not just the language of Maharashtra, but also Mumbai, and it can’t be ignored.

CM Fadnavis Affirms Marathi as Mumbai’s Language

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, responding to the controversy, emphasised that Marathi remains the language of the state and its capital. He stated that while Mumbai is a multilingual city, it is crucial for everyone to learn Marathi. Fadnavis also stressed that his government respects all languages but emphasised the importance of Marathi in the local culture, calling on people to embrace the language.
Joshi, meanwhile, sought to clarify his remarks, suggesting that they had been misunderstood. He reaffirmed that Marathi is the language of Maharashtra but pointed out the multilingual nature of Mumbai, acknowledging that people from various linguistic backgrounds live in the city. However, he reiterated that newcomers should understand and learn Marathi to integrate better into the city.

Maha Govt’s Push for Marathi Education Sparks Debate

The controversy comes at a time when the Maharashtra government has made Marathi a compulsory subject for students in schools affiliated with ICSE and CBSE boards. The BJP-led government’s push for the language has been met with support from parties like Shiv Sena and MNS, who have long advocated for the greater use of Marathi in the state’s public and cultural life.
This language row in Maharashtra also coincides with a similar debate in Tamil Nadu, where the ruling DMK has expressed strong opposition to the Centre’s ‘three-language formula’ in the New Education Policy. The debate highlights the ongoing challenges surrounding language policies and their cultural implications in India.

The yearly rental rate increases by 5% annually until year five when it will reach Rs 4.71 crore (USD 542,000). Imported Tesla Models to Launch in India

The new Mumbai showroom aims to promote imported Tesla car sales and work toward manufacturing electric vehicles accessible for Indian consumers. The business plans to release budget-friendly products including the Model 3 and Model Y with expected prices at Rs 22 lakh (equivalent to USD 25,000). Tesla follows a market strategy for India that involves importing cars from its Berlin Gigafactory until the company decides to build vehicles in the country.
The expansion of Tesla includes plans to open its second showroom specifically in New Delhi apart from the existing location in Mumbai. The organisation has launched multiple job opportunities throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region which demonstrates its determination to excel in India. The showroom opening generates excitement since Tesla’s potential long-term plans for manufacturing or assembling vehicles in India.

Tesla’s Entry Could Boost India’s Electric Vehicle Market

The Indian market now sees rising interest in electric mobility which led Tesla to establish entry in the country. The company’s entrance will create additional competition which will force more vehicle manufacturers to quickly release electric vehicle products to match the rising demand for sustainable vehicle transportation choices in India.

Banned Militant Group Hizb-ut-Tahrir Spreads Anti-India Propaganda in Bangladesh

1212855040
Kolkata, India: The banned militant organisation Hizb-ut-Tahrir has sparked controversy in Bangladesh by openly distributing propaganda leaflets across various roads, including in the capital, Dhaka. These materials call for the declaration of India as an enemy state and urge Muslims to unite under the banner of Hizb-ut-Tahrir.
The two-page leaflet, reportedly containing inflammatory content, promotes the idea that Bangladesh will lead the establishment of a Khilafat (Islamic Caliphate) in South Asia. It also includes speeches aimed at inciting hostility against India. The circulation of these materials has raised concerns, particularly as it comes just ahead of an important diplomatic meeting between the foreign secretaries of India and Bangladesh.

Hizb ut Tahrir’s Growing Influence and Cross-Border Presence

Security agencies have raised alarms over the increasing activities of Hizb-ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh and its possible infiltration into India. Intelligence sources have gathered crucial information suggesting the organization is attempting to expand its influence within Indian territory.
A recent investigation has uncovered details about two Bangladeshi nationals, Sabbir Aamir and Ridwan Maroof, who entered India on May 23 via the Mohaddipur border in Malda, West Bengal. Both individuals carried valid passports and initially identified themselves as students visiting on a tourist visa. However, their activities during their stay have raised suspicions.
According to intelligence reports, the duo visited multiple locations in Malda, including Vaishnavnagar and Dhulian, where they reportedly held meetings with local youths. They returned to Bangladesh on May 30, but their movements have since been under scrutiny. Authorities have identified Ridwan as a student of Rajshahi University, while Aamir, also known as Sabbir, is an established leader and organizer of Hizb-ut-Tahrir.
Further investigation has revealed their possible connections with locals in Malda, some of whom were found to have engaged in discussions related to Khilafat and Islamic practices. Intelligence agencies suspect that apart from these two individuals, other Hizb-ut-Tahrir members have also attempted to hold meetings in villages within the region to spread their ideology.

Security Agencies on High Alert

Following the discovery of Hizb-ut-Tahrir’s suspected activities in India, central intelligence agencies have intensified their monitoring efforts. Officials believe the banned outfit may be attempting to establish a network in the region by radicalizing local youth.
The recent circulation of anti-India leaflets in Bangladesh, combined with the movement of suspected Hizb-ut-Tahrir operatives across the border, has put security forces on high alert. Authorities are now closely monitoring possible links between the group’s members in Bangladesh and India.
The incident raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of counter-terrorism measures in the region, as well as the ability of banned organizations to operate despite restrictions. It remains to be seen how the governments of both India and Bangladesh will respond to this latest security threat.

According to the police, the 12-year-old girl left from her home after having a fight with her uncle saying she is going to pay a visit to her grandmother’s home on February 24. She left home around 9.30 in the morning but she did not return. Her grandmother informed that she had left within minutes of arriving. As she did not return after several hours, her parents became anxious and began searching for her in the neighbourhood. Unable to trace their daughter, the girl’s parents finally approached the police. A case of kidnapping was registered against an unknown person by the Jogeshwari Police.

Around 3 am on February 27, the Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) found a girl on a platform along with a 20-year-old man. केदारनाथ और हेमकुंड साहिब पहुंचेंगे रोपवे के जरिए मिनटों में

Kedarnath Hemkund Sahib Ropeway
kedarnath hemkund sahib ropeway

Ropeway

1300 MT of Garbage Removed from Delhi’s River Yamuna

Yamuna
Approximately 1300 metric tons (MT) of garbage has been removed from Yamuna in the past 10 years, according to the Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) minister, Parvesh Sahib Singh. Singh inspected the river by boat on Wednesday.
Cleaning the river Yamuna of Delhi was one of the key promises made by the BJP during the recently concluded Delhi assembly elections. This is part of the Delhi government’s ambitious plan to launch a ferry and crew service along the Yamuna river. The Delhi tourism and Transport Development Corporation has also issued a request for proposal to choose an operator for two solar powered cruise ships.

Plan to Clean Yamuna

Yamuna will be cleaned in a four-pro strategy, which was rolled out by LG VK Saxena. The aim is to clean Yamuna within three years using trash skimmers, weed harvesters and a dredge utility craft. The cleaning operation has already started last month.
“With the help of the DDA (Delhi Development Authority), we have started working on cleaning the river… We are working on mission mode,” said minister Singh while addressing the media after the boat ride.
The government also plans to connect all the drains in Delhi to Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and increase their capacity to prevent untreated water from flowing into the river, directly.

First Computerised Draw of Lots for EWS and Disadvantaged Groups in Primary School Held in Delhi

Primary Admissions
The first computerised draw of lots for admission of students under the economically weaker section (EWS) and disadvantage group (DG) category for entry level classes in private schools was conducted recently in Delhi. Over 2.5 lakh applicants registered for approximately 42,000 seats in various private schools. The draw of lots is special this time because it was conducted publicly in the presence of Delhi education minister, Ashish Sood. Multiple screens were installed at the venue, so that parents could see the process in real time.

Admission Process

All the students selected in the draw will receive a message by the evening and will be called to the Directorate of Education (DOE) office for document verification.
“We have multiple safeguards to make sure that process remains fair. This includes a redraw option in cases of objection, strict restrictions on cell phone usage in the venue and complete video surveillance. The entire process was carried out under the supervision of a special commission from DoE, which will also submit a sealed CD of the final results,” said minister Sood.
Admission to primary level private schools in Delhi is a big hassle for parents. Last December, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved the increase of EWS income limit from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, allowing more children to benefit from quality education. Meanwhile, the registration period for children with special needs, transgender students and other categories has been extended.

MCD Stops Construction Inside a Mosque In NE Delhi After Residents Complained

Mosque
The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has revoked permissions of the ongoing construction work inside a mosque situated in Northeast Delhi, Brahmpuri, after a row broke out between residents over the expansion of the mosque. The Delhi police has also intensified patrolling in the area.
The Al Mateen Masjid, over which the conflict prevails, was constructed in 2013 in Gali number 13 of Brahmapuri. In 2023, the trustees of the mosque purchased an adjacent plot in Gali number 12 and started construction work. The same year, the work was stopped in November after a PCR call was made by the residents of the area, claiming the construction was illegal. The trustee then approached the MCD and got permissions to continue the construction. This decision by the MCD, taken on November 23rd, 2024, would have extended the Masjid to gali number 12, facing an old temple.
But as soon as construction is resumed in February this year, another complaint was filed by the residents alleging that the construction of a structure adjacent to the Al Mateen Mosque is illegal. Following the complaint, the MCD on February 18 issued another show cause notice to the Al Mateen Welfare Society and ordered to stop the construction.

Conflict Prevails

On Monday this week, the Police received a complaint regarding stone pelting on the intervening night of March 2 and 3, at the Usmanpur Police Station. However, these claims could not be corroborated. The police personnel from Usmanpur will be present in the area till the situation de-escalates. One of the prime contention of the residents is against building a mosque, adjacent or very near to a mandir.

US Halts Intelligence Aid to Ukraine

Trump and Zelensky Tensions
United States has now paused the intelligence-sharing with Ukraine. This move is yet another tactic of piling pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to cooperate with US President Donald Trump in convening peace talks with Russia. With the same intent the US had halted the military aid to the country, earlier this week.
The move could leave Kyiv in the dark over the movements of Moscow’s strategic bomber aircraft and the launches of ballistic missiles.
These moves are made following a disastrous Oval Office meeting on Friday when Trump and Zelensky engaged in a shouting match before the world’s media.
According to the sources the Trump administration had halted “everything,” including targeting data that Ukraine has used to strike Russian targets, as reported by Reuters. Another source has stated that intelligence-sharing had only “partially” been cut.
White House officials have indicated that both bans, including on military aid and information, could be lifted if peace talks progressed.
“I think on the military front and the intelligence front, the pause I think will go away,” CIA Director John Ratcliffe told Fox Business Network on Wednesday.
“I think we’ll work shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine as we have to push back on the aggression that’s there, but to put the world in a better place for these peace negotiations to move forward,” he added.

Mineral Deal between US and Ukraine

Washington halted the military aid to Kyiv following an explosive meeting between Trump and Zelensky. This clash also delayed the signing of a deal that would give the US rights to revenue from Ukraine’s critical mineral deposits, which Trump has demanded from Ukraine to repay the US military aid.
Zelensky said on Wednesday there had been “positive movement” on the issue and officials from the two countries could meet again soon.
The White House said it is reconsidering its pause in funding for Ukraine and talks between the two countries over a minerals deal were ongoing.
According to a senior administration official, the signing of the mineral deal was expected to happen soon. It has also been hinted that this could be the first step in a longer negotiation between Ukraine, Washington and Russia on ending the war.
In an address to Congress on Tuesday evening, Trump said Kyiv was ready to sign a minerals deal. He also said he had been in “serious discussions with Russia” and received strong signals that it was ready for peace.
“It’s time to end this senseless war. If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides,” he said.
