Details of the Arrest

A 30-year-old IT engineer from Bengaluru was taken into custody by the Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday for allegedly sending extortion threats to Bollywood actors Tusshar Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana. The individual, identified as Vaibhav Mishra, reportedly used the names of members from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to intimidate the actors. The arrest occurred in Bengaluru, and Mishra is being transported to Mumbai for further questioning.

The arrest follows a series of incidents involving threats to Bollywood personalities. Notably, on October 18, two individuals associated with the Bishnoi gang opened fire at actor Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in Juhu, Mumbai, an act for which the gang claimed responsibility. This context has heightened the urgency of the investigation into Mishra’s actions.

Mishra allegedly sent threatening audio messages to various actors, demanding significant sums of money. Initial investigations, however, have not revealed any concrete links between him and the Bishnoi gang, raising questions about the authenticity of his claims.

Nature of the Threats

The situation came to light when Ayushmann Khurrana received an audio clip in which the sender claimed to be affiliated with the Bishnoi gang and demanded crores of rupees. This prompted the police to initiate an investigation, focusing on matching the voice in the recording with known samples of gang members. The threats were reportedly designed to instil fear among the recipients.

Tusshar Kapoor also received a similar threatening audio message shortly before Khurrana. The sender, who allegedly identified himself as Harry Boxer, claimed to be a member of the Bishnoi gang and demanded Rs 5 crore from Kapoor. Following these complaints, the Mumbai Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell and Crime Branch began a thorough investigation into the matter.

Investigators conducted a technical examination of the audio recordings, including a comparison with the official voice samples of Harry Boxer stored in police records. The results indicated that the audio did not match, leading authorities to suspect that someone was misusing the gang’s name to create a climate of fear among the actors.

Ongoing Investigation and Implications

The arrest of Vaibhav Mishra is a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the extortion threats directed at multiple Bollywood figures. Law enforcement agencies are delving deeper into the motives behind the threats and are assessing the extent of Mishra’s involvement in these alleged extortion attempts.

Authorities are also exploring whether Mishra acted alone or if there are additional accomplices involved. The investigation aims to clarify the connections, if any, between Mishra and the notorious gang, as well as to determine the broader implications of these threats on the film industry.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is committed to ensuring the safety of individuals in the entertainment sector and is taking all necessary measures to address the rising concerns regarding extortion and threats. As the investigation unfolds, further details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the complexities of this case.
