Tamil actor Arjun Das has confirmed that filmmaker Farhan Akhtar had approached him for a role in the upcoming film ‘Don 3’. In his recent conversation with News18, Das revealed that he had met Akhtar to discuss the project but did not elaborate on the specifics of the role. He mentioned that despite the preliminary discussions, the collaboration is no longer in motion. Das expressed his gratitude for being considered for the film.

He stated, “I was very, very fortunate to have received a call from Farhan sir. We did meet, humne discuss bhi kiya tha, but unfortunately, that isn’t happening now.” He remains hopeful for future opportunities to work with the filmmaker, indicating admiration for Akhtar’s character and professionalism. He shared his hopes for a future collaboration, praising Akhtar’s humility and sweetness. “I think he is one of the sweetest and most humble people I have met,” he remarked, reflecting a positive view of their initial meeting.

Development and Delays on ‘Don 3’

‘Don 3’ was officially announced in 2023, with Ranveer Singh slated to inherit the iconic role previously embodied by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. However, the project has faced numerous setbacks, causing uncertainty around its production timeline. As of now, filming has not yet commenced, and the specifics regarding the completion of the film remain unclear.

Farhan Akhtar was intended to direct the third instalment, alongside producers Ritesh Sidhwani and himself under the banner Excel Entertainment. However, by December 2025, it was reported that Ranveer Singh was no longer part of the film. The reasons surrounding his exit have been disputed among various sources.

Initial reports suggested that Singh had withdrawn from the project due to creative disagreements and delays. However, close sources from Singh’s camp have indicated that he was not the one to exit voluntarily; rather, the producers allegedly dismissed him based on conflicting demands. The situation evolved into a financial dispute, highlighting the complexities involved in project management within the film industry.

Financial Disputes Arising from Production Costs

In the ongoing conflict related to ‘Don 3’, Excel Entertainment has claimed that approximately Rs 45 crore was expended on pre-production activities prior to halting the project’s progress. These expenditures reportedly included costs for international scouting trips, hotel accommodations, and expenses necessary for managing a large production team.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) became involved, reflecting the seriousness of the financial implications brought forward by the producers. They cited the same Rs 45 crore figure while considering the complaints from Excel Entertainment regarding losses due to Singh’s departure.

The producers are seeking compensation from Ranveer Singh for the financial fallout attributed to his exit from ‘Don 3’. Meanwhile, Singh has shifted his focus to a new film project, a zombie thriller titled Pralay, which he is also producing under his own banner, Maa Kasam Films. As he moves forward, the complications surrounding ‘Don 3’ continue to unfold, capturing the attention of industry insiders and audiences alike.
