Andhra Pradesh Police Constable, Home Guard Booked for Drugging and Raping Woman

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking incident has come to light from Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district. Here, a 28-year-old woman who had approached the police for assistance was allegedly drugged and raped multiple times. Shockingly, the crime was carried out by a police constable and a home guard of the Police station.

According to reports, constable Umashankar of Punganur police station and Home Guard Kiran Kumar reportedly gave the survivor a drink mixed with sedatives. Following this, both took turns assaulting her. The accused allegedly threatened to kill her three children if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

Delayed Police Action and Harassment

The survivor also accused the home guard of repeatedly harassing her via phone calls. Despite filing complaints at several police stations, no action was taken for nearly two weeks. The police finally registered a case only after the woman made a public appeal for justice in front of the media, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Degala Prabhakar.

“Following her public appeal for justice in front of the media, Bangarupalyam police registered a case under relevant sections,” Deputy Superintendent of Police of Palamaner, Degala Prabhakar, said.

Similar Cases Highlight Widespread Issue

In a separate incident in Maharashtra’s Thane district, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by seven men over five months. The accused blackmailed her with recorded videos and were arrested following an investigation.

Meanwhile, in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district, two men were detained in connection with the gangrape of a 17-year-old Adivasi girl near the Andhra Pradesh–Chhattisgarh border.

Ongoing Investigations

Authorities have launched investigations into these cases, and further inquiries are underway. The incidents highlight persistent challenges victims face in securing justice and the urgent need for stronger safeguards against abuse by law enforcement.
