Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party and a member of Lok Sabha, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Central government’s handling of the recently alleged NEET paper leak. Speaking to reporters at the Parliament on July 23, he remarked that the government’s accountability seemed primarily focused on financial matters rather than addressing critical issues affecting students.

Yadav stated that the party is closely monitoring the actions of both the Uttar Pradesh government and the central authorities. He questioned the accountability of the government, highlighting that their efforts seem limited to “filling the accounts.” His remarks indicate a growing frustration regarding governance and the administration’s responsibility towards ensuring the integrity of examinations.

Demands for Policy-Level Changes

In a related remark, Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj responded to Prime Minister Modi’s announcement regarding the establishment of fast-track courts to address paper leak cases. Saroj emphasised the need for broader policy-level reforms to prevent future incidents, rather than merely focusing on punitive measures post-occurrence.

He underscored the detrimental consequences for youth, alleging that the government’s response involved excessive force against students during protests. Saroj argued that simply setting up fast-track courts would not suffice unless significant changes are implemented to ensure timely and secure examinations, thereby preventing distress for students.

Moreover, he called for direct engagement regarding the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the examination policies, urging the Prime Minister to articulate what specific changes could be made to ensure the integrity of academic processes.

Parliamentary Tensions Amid Protests

On the same day, tensions flared within Parliament as MPs from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc engaged in simultaneous protests over differing concerns. Prominent figures, including Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were present at the INDIA bloc protest held at Makar Dwar.

The NDA MPs also conducted a counter-protest, further intensifying the atmosphere within the Parliament premises. This clash of demonstrations reflects the broader political discontent regarding governmental handling of issues affecting students’ futures.

In the face of growing unrest, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the significance of safeguarding the future of the nation’s youth. He reiterated his commitment to action against those involved in examination malpractice, insisting that relevant measures would be taken to address these serious allegations. Modi’s statement comes during a period of heightened scrutiny of the government’s accountability amid mounting protests in response to the NEET paper leak.
