Menstrual Health Awareness Drive hosted in Delhi

FICCI YFLO Delhi, in partnership with Ujaas, an initiative of Aditya Birla Education Trust, spearheaded a transformative menstruation drive across 14 sites in Delhi NCR. The week-long initiative, designed to raise awareness and break menstrual health taboos, reached over 800 beneficiaries, with 62% of them being women.
Throughout the program, Ujaas played a central role in delivering crucial knowledge on menstrual health, hygiene practices, and care. The menstruation drive covered critical topics, including understanding menstruation, menstrual hygiene, product usage and disposal, exercises for pain relief, and combating superstitions. The program also addressed issues such as PCOS/PCOD, menopause, and how to support children during menstruation. The initiative also provided participants with practical tools to manage their menstrual health, with Sirona offering sanitary pads and menstrual cups to all attendees.
Speaking about the initiative, Steffi Fernando, Senior Manager, Ujaas stated, “At Ujaas, we believe that menstrual hygiene is not just a necessity but a fundamental right. Our recent awareness drive has made significant strides in breaking the stigma surrounding periods, fostering open conversations across communities in Delhi NCR. Through continued efforts we aim to challenge taboos and ensure that everyone has access to the information and resources they need for proper menstrual health, and embraces menstruation as a natural and healthy part of life.”
Speaking at the closing session, Dr. Payal Kanodia, Chairperson of YFLO Delhi, emphasized the importance of openly addressing menstrual health and removing associated stigmas. The training covered essential topics such as understanding menstruation, product usage, disposal methods, pain relief exercises, and combating menstrual myths.
Deepali and Dipika, trainers from Ujaas, reflected on the impact of the program, saying, “It was heartening to witness women and girls enthusiastically embracing the information and resources. We saw many challenge long-standing taboos and engage with new practices that will improve their health and dignity.”
Since inception, in 2020, Ujaas has benefitted 296852 individuals, and distributed 4433020 sanitary pads, underscoring its commitment towards bringing about a transformative change in the way menstrual hygiene is addressed in India.
The drive was further supported by partners such as Aide et Action, Bright Orange Foundation, Lakshyam, and M3M Foundation’s iMPower programme. By addressing crucial menstrual health issues, FICCI YFLO Delhi, Ujaas, and their partners are paving the way for a more informed and empowered future for women and girls across the region.
