The CSR Journal Magazine

In a significant drug bust, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Shahdara district has arrested a 19-year-old woman named Roopa in East Delhi. Authorities recovered 55.52 grams of smack, a form of heroin, from her during an operation conducted on March 11 in the Geeta Colony area. The operation was initiated following a tip-off, leading the police to the Safeda Jhuggi locality, where they apprehended Roopa.

During a detailed search, law enforcement officials found the illicit substance hidden inside a polythene packet in her clothing. Subsequently, a case has been filed against her under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the local police station in Geeta Colony.

Allegations of Drug Dealing for Quick Gains

Interrogation of the accused revealed that she started engaging in drug dealing as a means to earn fast money while working as a daily-wage labourer in her neighborhood. Police are currently pursuing the lead gained from Roopa regarding her supplier, conducting further raids to identify the source of the narcotics.

Recent Crackdown on Drug and Bootlegging Activities

Prior to this arrest, the Delhi Police had executed “Operation Aaghat 4.0” on March 1 and 2, aimed at curbing illegal activities, particularly targeting bootleggers and drug peddlers ahead of the Holi festival. This operation resulted in the detention of approximately 4,000 individuals, with over 975 of them taken into preventive custody and subsequently charged.

Joint Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Jain described the operation as a success, emphasizing its focus on combating criminal activities that could escalate during the festival. He stated that more than 220 arrests were made under the Substances Act, with additional actions taken under various other laws including the Arms Act and the Delhi Excise Act. In total, over 550 individuals were prosecuted for public drinking-related offences, and more than 475 vehicles were seized under the Delhi Police Act.

Moreover, the police were able to apprehend six property offenders, leading to the recovery of nine motorcycles and 20 stolen mobile phones. The efforts form part of ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring public safety and deterring illegal activities associated with festive celebrations in the region.
