Web of Deceit: Plot Thickens Around Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary in Ketan Agarwal Murder Probe

The CSR Journal Magazine

The investigation into the death of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal has highlighted a detailed web of digital communication, secret meetings, and conflicting narratives. Authorities have suggested that Chetan Chaudhary played a pivotal role in urging Siya Goyal to orchestrate the murder of her fiancé. According to police reports, this case reflects a conspiracy that developed over several months, characterised by numerous phone calls and at least one meeting at a café.

Ketan Agarwal, aged 25, met with a tragic end after being pushed into a gorge at Lohagad Fort on June 18. Both Siya Goyal, 20, and Chetan Chaudhary, 22, have been taken into custody as the investigation develops. Police claim the murder was not a sudden act but rather the result of protracted planning.

According to law enforcement, both individuals initially tried to deflect blame onto one another. However, investigators have gathered evidence pointing towards Chetan as the main instigator behind the alleged murder plot. Chetan is believed to have repeatedly encouraged Siya to eliminate Ketan to facilitate their relationship.

Reconstructions and Confessions Reveal Dark Details

A reconstruction of the events has indicated that the couple chose not to run away together, fearing dishonour would come to their families. Instead, they allegedly decided to murder Ketan. Siya was reportedly told to signal Chetan when Ketan was unsuspecting, leading to the fatal push into the gorge. Police have stated that Ketan was unaware of the impending danger.

The investigation uncovered that June 18 was not the first attempt on Ketan’s life. Previous attempts were made on May 31 and June 4, although the latter was thwarted due to objections from Ketan’s mother. A dramatic incident on June 14, where Siya allegedly tried to push him, had also ended in failure.

Key evidence emerged from security footage depicting Siya and Chetan meeting at a café on June 17, just a day before the murder, to finalise their plans. Police have determined that their extensive phone communication, amounting to over 2,000 calls, spanned several months leading up to the incident, with many conversations lasting in excess of two hours.

CCTV Footage and Mixed Testimonies Complicate the Case

CCTV footage played a vital role in piecing together Chetan’s activities on the day of the murder. He was observed wearing a hooded sweatshirt to blend in while following Ketan and Siya during their hike. The investigation concluded that Chetan ascended and descended the fort in a swift 48 minutes, suggesting premeditated actions to commit the crime.

Inconsistencies in Siya’s account of the events have also raised concern among investigators. Initially, she claimed that Ketan had slipped into the gorge while they were taking photos. However, her testimony shifted during questioning, as she later suggested that Ketan had lost his balance while she asked him for water. Investigators noted that no photographs from their time at the fort were found on Ketan’s phone.

Moreover, suspicion around Siya deepened following her visit to Ketan’s family shortly after his funeral. Her inconsistent explanations led Ketan’s sister, Sanjana, to contact the police, prompting a renewed investigation into the matter.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

As the investigation progressed, authorities dismantled what they labelled as Chetan’s constructed alibi on the day of the murder. He left his mobile phone at his shop to create a false impression of his whereabouts. However, records revealed he had used another phone with location data placing him at Lohagad Fort during the time of the crime.

Conflicting accounts from both families regarding possible motives for the murder have emerged, complicating matters further. While some suggest Siya’s relationship with Chetan was the root cause, her family asserts that she was committed to marrying Ketan, contradicting claims that she was unhappy with the engagement.

As the investigation continues, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary remain in custody. Pune Rural Police are finalising a charge sheet as they gather testimony from multiple witnesses to move forward with legal proceedings against the accused.
