Varun Dhawan Recalls Underworld Threat That Forced Family to Evacuate

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Varun Dhawan recently recounted a harrowing experience from the 1990s when his family faced a threat from underworld elements. This alarming situation compelled them to vacate their residence for a day. The 38-year-old actor noted that several celebrities were experiencing similar threats during that time.

Encountering Ominous Phone Calls

In a discussion with Yuvaa, Varun shared that his family had been receiving threatening calls, but initially did not grasp the seriousness of the situation. He explained that their staff mistakenly engaged in confrontations with the callers, ultimately disclosing their home address. Varun stated, “We had been receiving them for quite some time, but we didn’t realise it because the staff were arguing with whoever was calling. The staff even gave out our full address and told the person where to meet, ‘Come meet me in that garden; I’ll beat you there.’”

Warning from a Fellow Actor

One of Varun’s colleagues reached out to his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, alerting him to the escalating threat. Varun recounted the warning, noting, “He said that this had gone out of hand and that the person was now saying he would come with guns and that he knew our address and office timings.” The alarmed parents were informed about who had divulged their location, prompting the family to vacate their home temporarily. Varun added, “So we had to leave our house and stay somewhere else that day. It is funny, but it is not funny actually.”

Recent Projects and Future Releases

On the professional front, Varun Dhawan was last seen in “Border 2,” directed by Anurag Singh. The film featured a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, along with notable performances from Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh. “Border 2” proved to be a box-office success, grossing Rs 450 crore globally.

Upcoming Film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

Varun is set to star in the romantic comedy “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai,” alongside Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. Originally scheduled for release on June 5, the film has been postponed to June 12 to avoid direct competition with Yash’s film “Toxic.” According to an official announcement from Tips Films, the production team expressed their intent to avoid unnecessary box-office competition, thereby rescheduling the release date.
