Uttarakhand Allocates Rs 289.98 Crore for Equal Pay Initiatives for Former UPNL Employees

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttarakhand government has made a significant commitment in its 2026-27 budget to ensure fair compensation for former UPNL employees. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the allocation of Rs 289.98 crore aimed at implementing the principle of equal pay for equal work.

This move follows concerns regarding the remuneration of former employees who have contributed to various state departments over the years.

Focus on Inclusive Governance

Chief Minister Dhami emphasized the administration’s sensitivity to the workforce’s needs, asserting that protecting the interests of former UPNL employees is a governmental responsibility.

He highlighted that these employees have rendered essential services, and the financial provision in the budget will support the implementation of equitable compensation. This decision is portrayed as part of a broader strategy for inclusive governance by the state.

Encouragement for Future Contributions

According to the Chief Minister, the allocation reflects a dedication to the welfare of all employees. He expressed hope that this initiative would not only provide relief to the affected workers but also inspire them to engage more enthusiastically in future development projects within the state. The government is seeking to strengthen the administrative framework while ensuring transparency and accountability, as reiterated in the budget’s announcement.

State Assembly Budget Session Scheduled

The Budget Session of the Uttarakhand Assembly is taking place between March 9 and March 13, 2026. This session serves as a platform for discussing crucial financial decisions, including the aforementioned allocation for UPNL employees.

During the session, Principal Secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram presented the Economic Survey of Uttarakhand, revealing that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for the fiscal year 2024-25 is pegged at Rs 3,81,889 crore, a considerable rise from Rs 2.54 lakh crore recorded in 2021-22. This substantial increase underscores the state’s economic progress and capacity for enhanced financial planning.
