UP Rain Mayhem: Parents Carry Baby Overhead Amid Flooded Streets in Prayagraj, Video Viral!

The CSR Journal Magazine

Disturbing visuals from flood-hit Prayagraj have gone viral on social media. The videos capture the human toll of the rising waters as the Ganga and Yamuna rivers breach their danger levels. Among the most gut-wrenching clips is a video from the Chhota Baghara locality. Here, a couple wading through chest-deep water while holding their infant high above their heads to keep the child safe has gone viral.

The clip, which has drawn widespread attention, highlights the growing desperation of residents across the holy city. Submerged homes, floating garbage, and streets turned into rivers illustrate the grim reality for many living in low-lying areas.

Parents Carry Baby Overhead

On the night of August 2, residents in Chhota Baghara awoke to a frightening scene, floodwater creeping into their homes with alarming speed. Many were forced to abandon their belongings in a rush to reach higher ground.

One particularly emotional moment, now circulating widely online, shows a man carrying his newborn aloft while another family member helps the baby’s mother by carrying her through the water. With official help unavailable at the time, the family’s cautious march through submerged streets stirred both admiration and concern. Eyewitnesses offered silent prayers, muttering, “Ganga Maiya, have mercy.”

Public Spaces and Services Disrupted

The floods have not spared even sacred spaces. Temples are under water, and even Rasulabad Ghat, a key site for cremation rites, has been closed due to inundation.

In residential areas, homes are either partially or fully submerged, and streets are no longer navigable. Public transport and movement have come to a standstill. Rescue teams have found it challenging to reach every corner as the situation remains critical.

District-Wide Impact Across Uttar Pradesh

According to state government data, 402 villages in 37 tehsils across 17 districts have been impacted, affecting more than 84,000 residents. The worst-hit districts include Prayagraj, Varanasi, Chitrakoot, Ballia, and Lakhimpur Kheri.

More than 3,000 people have been moved to temporary relief camps. Emergency services, including 12 boats and multiple teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been deployed for rescue and relief operations.

Sub-Inspector’s Videos Go Viral Amid Crisis

In a different kind of viral moment, UP sub-inspector Chandradeep Nishad, who serves as a personal security officer to an Allahabad High Court judge, shared a video of himself diving headfirst into floodwaters outside his house. A former national swimmer, Nishad posted the clip with a warning: “Do not attempt this. I am a trained professional.”

In another video, he is seen performing aarti at his waterlogged doorstep, offering milk and flowers to the Ganga river, a gesture blending faith and resilience. With over 21,000 Instagram followers, Nishad’s videos have sparked both admiration and criticism, with some calling them spiritual, while others questioned their safety and timing.

UP Rains Fury continues

As of Saturday evening, the water level reached 84.734 meters, well above the danger threshold. Entire localities are under water, and while rescue efforts are ongoing, residents face an uncertain future. With rain showing no signs of stopping, Prayagraj and its neighboring districts brace for more difficult days ahead.

Local authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate and seek safety in relief centers. The state government has promised ongoing support, but for many, the damage has already been done.
